Possibly the best heavy duty rough work folder you can get, especially for the money.
The Cold Steel Pocket Bushman, available at SMKW for $29.95.
A large folder, practically indestructable and does the job well.
Write up in Tactical Knives Jan. 2009.
You just can't go wrong!

I liked the design---especially the blade size and shape.

The metal handles of the knife and the lock made me wary of the design; a gentleman posted on his experience with the lock over on General Discussion. He misused it when unlocking the blade, I believe, and cut himself deep enough to require surgery.

Thanks for the input.

The lock takes time and practice to adjust to but it's tough as nails and cheap as dirt. On a related note regarding danger, I found out that you can open it "one handed" by holding the lanyard and swinging the knife hard. The force loosens the lock slightly and the blade zings right out! Fun, but impractical and dangerous if you do it wrong. Don't try it at home! :D

True,it is not a toy and one should pay attention when operating it,treat it like a tool.

I have no problem opening it one handed, I think it just needs some breaking in. Very sharp, flat grind does well, and the lock is very strong even if it requires paying attention more than others. Definitely a good choice, the lock is the only downside for some but then again its a major upside as well...double edge sword.

¿flat grind?
In Cold Steel webpage they say it´s 'full hollow ground'. Could you check it, please? If it´s a full flat ground, it´s a folder I´d be very interested in.
Best regards.

The thing to keep in mind, I suppose, is that all knives and locks are dangerous when used unsafely, inappropriately, and without due caution. You do have to respect knives as tools, not toys.

Hearing the the grind is closer to a flat shape does increase my interest too.

It's flat ground (more like cast/molded?), with a secondary bevel. The lock takes a bit of use before you're comfortable with it, but it's very sturdy. You'll need two hands to close it, and it's not all that fast to open with one hand, either - the spring is pretty stout.

Hard to beat this one for the $25 to $30 price. And like a lot of Cold Steel products, it's razor sharp from the factory. My review: not pretty, but very solid. I wish they'd make one in 2/3 size, sort of like the Benchmade Grip vs. the Mini-Grip.

Thanks to all for the info. Flat-ground, metal sheet handle, tough locking system and pretty cheap make this folder very likely to be rather adequate to be in a BOB, forgotten until you may need it.
Regards.

I've been hesitant to pick one of these up on the principal of the lock, but now I think that it has its rightful place in my collection---hidden in the BOB, or used as a beater. It sounds more than adequate for either.

Thanks for the indirect help. :D

That's what I got it for. Its a shame CS already has an "AK-47" model because this one really is quite similar; simple construction, tough, cheap, few parts, and rugged.

The Pocket Bushman looks like a helluva deal for the price. Seems like a nice knife to keep in the car for emergencies.

That sounds like an excellent choice of places,it is a bit slow in opening for instant self defense, and very slow closeing, but who is in a hurry closeing?
Good work knife,very stout!
The closest thing I have other than my Bushman is an old Tops magnum folder with a 4 3/4" clip blade, liner lock, aluminum handle, very stout ,but much more expensive.
