I have been wanting to check out one of the Ruger 1911 for awhile now, I have read good things about them and have never even seen one in person! I read that they came out with a commander sized version this year and figured I would never see one of those. I dropped by my LGS to look around and they just got in one Ruger 1911 CMD. It felt great, solid and very tight, the quality appeared to be top notch for being one of the least expensive 1911's in the case, being a Colt guy I'm use to a little loosness;)
I have a Colt series 70 Government Model and a Colt Officers Model and really don't need another 1911 but I just could not let it go....If it shoots as good as she feels it will be a keeper for sure. I can't wait to take it to the hills this weekend.
As soon as I got out of the gun shop, Ruger in tow, I get an email from Lexi requesting payment for my SantaGanzaaa NMFSH, the old bank account is suffering, NO REGRETS!

Ruger's fullsize 1911 is a good-shootin gun as well. I put about 50 rounds through one a friend of mine owns, had zero jams/malfunctions and was extremely accurate to boot. I was running FMJ target loads, but people need to stop believing the lie that the .45 auto is a hard-kicking gun, it ain't. Have fun running your Commander model... and good luck on finding rounds to feed it!

Ya I normally reload, I have 1000 rounds of 45 components packed up with all my gear from when I sold my home recently. Luckily I have a pretty good stash of reloads. The gun shop had some Blazer for 24.00 a box so I snagged a couple of those until I dig out my stash!

:thumbup:Congrats nice score! Rugers are well made, strong, and they have great cutomer service. Just like Busse:D I have a GP100 and SP101 in 357 Mag, but I have been wanting to check out one of their 1911's too.

Wait....

You picked up a Ruger 1911 that was tight?

Sweet knife though

I haven't heard much of anything bad about the Ruger 1911 yet. I have been looking for one at my local gun stores since they came out and haven't been able to find one yet!

The one I shot is fitted pretty tight, did not notice any looseness at all.

That's a first, I've handled at least 20 of the full size and they all rattle worse than 1911s that have been through at least 1 world war, and the barrels are far from fitted correctly.

Let me know when you want a report

Thanks Pokey!

M67, I'm sure there are negative reports out there, I have found a few. What's your favorite 700 out the door 1911, I'm sure there is plenty of hate for all brands on the internet.

You're lucky you didn't buy a Glock. M67 is all over that! :D

The Ruger 1911 is a good bargain, no doubt. One of the biggest mistakes/misconceptions in the 1911 world is that they must have a very tight frame to slide fit. In reality, a tight fit is a recipe for unreliability (exception being Les Baer). Barrel to slide and bushing fit is key. Still, I've never seen one that doesn't shoot MTBG (minute to bad-guy) pretty effectively.

I'm not sure what kind of mags the Ruger is shipping with, but you may consider some new magazines for it. Lots of guys swear by the Tripp mags. Others like Wilson-Rodgers mags. I have both and they work great in all my 1911's. Make sure you test your 'carry' ammo before trusting it.

Sounds like you have a shooter on your hands! The commander sized pistol is great.

Yup, plenty of hate on all brands, but to be honest I've had more problems out of the Ruger. Remington R1s are pretty bare, but they always have good fitting and tight bushings, only issue I've had with one is we received one where Remington didn't bother to put sights in from the factory. Para makes some nice ones for that price now too, base model Kimbers, and I hate saying it, but I've never had an issue with a Taurus 1911 besides them being caked in slimy, white, nasty, Brazilian..........shipping grease.

Every brand though, there are going to be people that don't like them.

Damn right

Very true, but when you shake the pistol it's nice not to hear things rattling too much. A tight lock up with the bushing, and a flat contact surface on the slide are the main points, but I've seen way too many Rugers with overall looseness and bad fit.

I've yet to have the opportunity to tear apart and analyze the compacts, but the full size ones....

Thanks for the insight M76, luckily this one is tight, with the magazine removed the only thing I can get a rattle from is the grip safety but that's an easy fix. I'll report back after shooting it this weekend.

Thanks fivefold

The Ruger is sweet, have handled one but have not had a chance to fire one. I've got money set aside for a Dan Wesson Valor but am waiting on ordering as cannot see having the pistol without being able to find ammo for it.

I love a good rattling 1911. I cut my teeth on Springfields and carried a few Colts and a custom or two over the years. I LOVED the rattle. When I bought my first Smith and Wesson 6906 I thought something was wrong with it because it was quiet. The quietest 1911 I ever had was my Kimber Elite Carry. I used to jiggle the grip safety just to hear it.
