hello all! im being tempted to leave, albeit, briefly the sak fold. im not a tactical knife kinda girl but i do like the determined looks of rugers all weather knife.

its profiled this month in one of the knife mags and it has really grown on me.

one thing that the wholesome and unthreating saks do not have is easy one handed opening, and thats a feature id like to have. well if an intruder did confront me it can just throw the Tool at him and knock him out, its so rugged and heavy!

saw lord of the rings last night. many flaws but the movie as a whole was very entertaining and mant times down right scarey!
strangely my sak rucksack glows blue in the presence of 12pk coors light. those longnecks must be freed you know!;)

I read the article about the Ruger knife in Tactical Knives. It looks interesting, but I haven't seen one yet. Doesn't the Ruger All-Weather knife look like one of Paragon's auto folders?

Yes, here it is. This is the Ruger knife:

And here's the Paragon ATK08 (Keith Wood) folder:

It would have been nice if they added a thumbstud on the Ruger.

I know PVK has a run of auto Ruger AWK's. I also read that article and it looks like a good knife, but it shoud be an auto.

The Sturm Ruger "All Weather knife" features a composite handle with kraton inserts and an ATS34 blade. The knife's satin finished blade is marked "1st Production Run" and is available in your choice of combo or plain edge configurations. This auto version of the All Weather Knife is a PVKNIFE exclusive - your local shooter's shop will have the manual only button lock versions in stock this fall.

Why don't you also check out the Paragon?

they look like the exact same knife. is just a matter of branding? is paragon just pasting on ruger logos?

no matter what its an impressive goodlooking knife.

The one in my post IS an auto :D

how much is it? what i like most about it is whats not there. no ostentacious decorations, no turqoiuse, nom funny "custom" colors.
simply a beautiful knife beautifully.

Visually the Ruger / Paragon are good looking. However,
not to be the spoil sport here I can't keep from thinking ...
Why??

Why make a hi tech knife that takes two hands to open??

Why make one in Auto and one in plain??

Why use Ats-34 steel on a FIELD knife from a gun manfacture
that most people can't sharpen without a diamond sharpener due to
the steel choice?? I'm sorry but I want a knife I can sharpen on a rock
if I have to in the field. ATS-34 ain't it.

Could this be that a gun manufacture makes great guns and lousy knives??

This looks very much to be a marketing goof up.........

I have seen on some sites that the Ruger uses 440C and the Paragon ATS-34. They do look like the same knife, but since the Ruger sells for less I am thinking that the materials used to make the Paragon are probably more expensive. It would not make much sense for Paragon to make this knife for Ruger, use the same materials and have Ruger sell it for less. That would be shooting yourself in the foot.

The Ruger is a Paragon contract knife, I believe. The real world reviews were mixed, run a search in the Automatic forum:).

The stree legal version of the Ruger knife locks in both closed and opened positions. Therefore it may take two hands to open it. If the blade moves freely once the botton is pushed then you could open it by flicking your wrist, if not it will take two hands to open it. I have only handled the automatic conversion form. It's a nice knife but IMHO it is way too expensive for what you get. This is tough for me to have to say since some of my most prized posessions for the past twenty some years have names like Mark II, Redhawk, 10-22, Security Six and M77.

Please check out offerings from Kershaw, Spyderco anc Columbia River Knife and Tool. They all offer nice durable one hand openers for under $100. PS. - Don't pay retail, many knife dealers sell these brands at substantial discounts. At the recent gun show in Lexington, KY I found the following:

Kershaw Boa - $100
Kershaw Avalanche - $80
CRKT M18 - $70
CRKT Apache - $15 (I couldn't belive this price)
Benchmade axis lock w/burgandy G10 scales (I can't remember the model number) - $110

The above prices are all substantially below retail.

Hope this helps.

Personally, I think it's uggghhhhly, and way overpriced. The only thing I kind of like is the blade engraving detail.

For a Zytel knife, you can do MUCH better on price and quality with:
Spyderco
Cold Steel
CRKT
Benchmade
Kershaw
Outdoor Edge
