I am looking at buying the Ruger sr15. Do any of you have anything good or bad to say a out it??

Things to consider, no wrong answer really. Some parts on the Ruger will not interchange with the standard oem AR. Colt brand AR s also have some proprietary parts, believe it or not.

I believe they are in the top ten for ARs. I just sold my dpms Panther AR and bought a M4 bushmaster. It was in the $700 range. Still haven't shot it yet, but Hickok45 did a nice review on it.

As was stated above, there really isn't a wrong answer. While Ruger makes a decent quality AR, I wouldn't rate it in the top ten. I personally wouldn't start off with a gas piston system, stick with the standard direct impingement.

My gas gun is a Sig Sauer 556. It runs like a swiss watch. I do not know much about the Ruger guns but if it were me I would go Sig. It takes AR mags so that is a plus.

This rifle will be used for plinking and for some hunting with my daughters. I don't plan to run 500 round drums through it. I want something like I was issued in the Army. M16A2/M4 with iron sights.

The Ruger has a gas piston system, unlike the M16A2. If that's important scratch the Ruger. Colt is expensive for a plinker & does have " some " parts that isn't standard OEM AR so I'd skip that one. DPMS, Bushmaster and others make models with the M4 type barrel you're looking.

I doubt I could tell the difference. I just want a good, solid gun. I own 3-4 other Rugers now and like the quality they offer.
The last m4 I had as part of my crew serve weapons on my tank I could hit targets all day long at 200+. I just don't want too waiste my money.

What price point are you trying to hit?

I have put together several ar-15s from Palmetto State Armory and while I only kept one, it has not given me any problems. I have only out a little over 2000 rounds through it, but for less than 500 dollars I think it is more than good enough for most people.

I did order the upper and lower separate.

Make sure to get the "premium" line from PSA; they use FN barrels.

Nothing wrong with the Ruger, or the S&W too from what I have heard. I only have experience with a few Colts, an old Bushmaster, and a BCM upper and all were excellent for my uses. (Targets, groundhogs, home defense, and having fun.)

Nothing wrong with Ruger, just a different gas system. If you just want a plinker the Ruger should serve your needs. Not a whole lot of difference in the other AR brands until you get into the bells and whistles which you can always add later should you desire.

May I suggest building your own. It's not all that difficult and there is a lot of satisfaction associated with building your own, not to mention you can customize it the way you want. A buddy of mine bought a Ruger AR and while it was OK it was not great. The trigger left a lot to be desired which is an easy fix but I just could not warm up to this rifle.

I've been using a DPMS carbine, and it hasn't given me any problems yet. It hasn't failed to feed, failed to cycle, or failed to digest dirty Tula ammo like it's candy. Granted I only put a couple of magazines through it at a time due to cost, but it's fired hundreds of rounds.

I bought one but haven't been able to find the time to get out and shoot it. Anyway, I was looking for an entry level AR and chose it over the S&W because the Ruger has a 1 in 8 twist as opposed to the S&W which has 1 in 9 twist.

I have one, great rifle for the price! Buy it without worrying.
BTW, only comes with 1 Magpul 30-rd p-mag, so be sure to grab a couple more.

Isn't the 1 in 9 twist standard for most ARs?
