Your choice of caliber will certainly kill deer and bear. Elk and Moose as well.
I am a .270 guy. I bought my Savage with a composite stock, but bought a nice oil finished walnut stock eventually because I just love the feel of a nice hardwood stock. Always wanted a nice "mountain rifle" and finally got it.
If you are getting a good deal, go for it. Not much North American game is safe from that rifle.

I've got an M77 in 30-06 and I just love it. The 300 RCM would be great for your intended pupose.
