Graciously curved skinners and slender paring knives need not apply. I'm talking about the chopping, digging and other uses/abuses a "field knife" endures.

Any thoughts on CR Project (1 or 2) vs. Busse, vs. Seal Knivesssssss, etc?

Well it depends...... the project 1 is a better fighter, imo, But the Battle mistress is always going to out chop it. Then again, if that's all you want, go for a kukri. Also, what about knives like the Mad dog ATAK, Cold Steel SRK (one of the most underrated knives out there, Fallkniven A-1, etc, etc, etc..... take your pick. Look at them, fondle them, weigh them against your wallet....

All knives are created equal, then i get my dirty big hands on them and the real fun begins.

This arguement comes up very frequently so you may want to run a search. At any rate Bill Matino of HI came up with the perfect answer to this question. The AK Bowie has a 1/2" spine (well over that on my example) and was purposely designed to end the debate over which maker makes the toughest knife.

I've owned a Project 2, a Battle Mistress and a Steel Heart 2. Overall, I like the Busse's better. The Project was a fine knife, but round handles are harder to control. A slight twist while chopping would deflect the blade enough to be dangerous. The knurling on the handle would help some, but sweat would still make the handle twist a little while whittling and would be painful in the wrist after a while. The Busse's have very comfortable handles that stay where you want them. But I think these knives serve different purposes, and the Reeve definitely has a place as a survival tool.

tknife: In your opinion, is the CR Project every bit the knife the Busse is, other than differences in design.

I have hunting knifes; but am looking for a field/survival/camping knife for the more abusive chores.

I think the Busse Basic #5 is a good package of steel and weight. The kydex gets some getting used to but it's pretty good. I've also stabbed and cut into wood with it with no problem and even if my forefinger did slip there was enough distance that it would not touch the blade.

Field, survival, camping knife? Sounds like a Steel Heart or Battle Mistress to me.

I would say the Reeve is every bit as good as my A2 Steel Heart was. But if I absolutely had to pick one, I'd go with the Busse. But I am really impressed with INFI, and find it to be the best in a big using knife. If at all possible, you should try and go to a show where you can handle both knives. I think it all comes down to personal preference.

tknife: Thanks for your thoughts. Personal preference is usually th bottom line. I may know what I want and like but wanted to benefit for those more experienced with the products ... such as yourself. Thank you.
