So after reading the replies to my post yesterday I decided to head back and get those antlers providing the carcass was still there !

When I eventually arrived at the spot is appeared someone had beat me to it !!!

While I was there I figured I'd scout around a little and found the spot where the deer was ambushed. I figure this spot was it's lay, the Cougar crept up and pounced down onto the deer. I doubt the deer would even have had time to react....

The Deer then probably managed to drag itself forward about 6 feet before succuming to the weight of the Cougar and dropping. This looked like part of one ear....

Me and the dogs then got back on the trail and headed to part that was in the opposite direction to where I went yesterday....

Knowing I was going back to the Cougars kill I decided to carry a little more knife today...

I climbed up to a vantage point but as I reached the top it started to snow quite heavily. When it snows, the area I was in can get quite bad very quickly and I wasn't as prepared as I was yesterday so decided to head back to the car.

Me back near the parking lot wondering whether to drink my tea in this shelter or head back to the warmth of the car.......warmth of the car won !

too bad the antlers were gone
that was my first thought when seeing the pix
if you took those puppies
but there were legs full of sinew there
that woulda been relatively quick and easy to harvest
but yeah, messing with a fresh cougar kill for long would not been a good idea as far as im concerned
cats usually come back

Huh, I guess we are not the only weirdos out there.

Or maybe, it was someone on this very forum, upon seeing your post, went and
harvested the antlers from the spot....... It was Colonel Mustard!

Seriously, how frequently do you run across people on that trail? What is the chance of someone finding that spot? It is a little creepy to think about.
