I'm kinda thinking about an mp3 for running and woodsbuming, i've done the iPod thing and not so impressed, so i'm looking for suggestions. It rains a lot here in Hawaii, I go to the beach a lot and I am hard on my gear, it gets used. I need something that can keep up, if i'm going to even bother.

What do you guys got for suggestions? Thanks! :D

I like my ipod touch with an otterbox armour series. It is waterproof, and very safe.

^ this.

your best bet is to buy whatever mp3 suits you and then wrap it in Otter. I have yet to find an mp3 player that would hold up to severe weather/abuse and just settled for buying cheap ones that didn't hurt to replace. It is much better to get a good mp3 and a solid case, IMO.

Suppose that's kinda the elephant in the room, doh. I have a bit of a chip on my shoulder about apple products, it is one of the easiest options though. (I've got about $4000 of apple products that currently DON'T work and an 1 iPod classic that does. :jerkit:)

I like the look of the new nano, but not much in the way of armor that i can find. Lot's for the touch i suppose.

Thanks guys

H20 Audio has waterproof durable Apple iPod cases. Completely submersible and tough plastic with external buttons. It's a pretty slick setup, they also have underwater headphones too.

Another way to see rugged is small and light.

The Sansa Clip series (try amazon search) are tiny and very light, though smaller RAM size as they don't have a hard drive in them. They don't require any special software either, they just show up as a generic storage device you just copy files to. No fiddling with iTunes etc just to load your music on them.

Not flashy, but they work great. Check the dimensions info, they look three times larger than they really are in the pics, they are very small.

They are also cheap, so if you lose one or kill it somehow, no big deal.

I've got an iPod and it's pretty cool; just bought a cord to run it through my car stereo.

However, I also have one of the little Sansa things I bought for 20 bucks from Amazon.
Works great... Incorporates an FM radio, and plays audio books as well... Tiny and light.

I've got an iPod Touch 2nd gen that I throw around a bunch in general. It's survived 2 and a half years of this so far and is still going strong.

It is very small. I usually have it in a shirt pocket. Good battery life too. Plus it's not an apple!

I have an old TrekStor that I got for $5 after a mail in rebate about 3 years ago. It's only 1 GB which is why I bought the Clip. But it's indestrucable!
