ruined buffing wheel

I got a knife blade caught in my buffing wheel and took a chunk out of it. Is there any way to fix it? This is a new 8" I just put on the buffer motor. No damage done to my body, but now I know what you guys have been saying all along. Buffer is the most dangerous tool in the shop. Thanks for the help.

Whew, thank God you didn't get the blade shot back at ya! Bout all you can do for the wheel is dress it down till the torn part is gone.

Do not fully tighten the buffing wheel so it will slip on the shaft and not grab items out of your hand.

best fix is to cut it down to bottom of tear all the way around with a bandsaw.
