OK, I ordered this system and then I read all the reviews about it. Some were scary but none seemed to outright condemn the thing. OK, now I have received "the BOX" and I can give expert testimony on the value of this kit.
Firstly, I got some criticism and neg comments. Those were/are:
Ruixin stones are inferior to Edge Pro. Edge pro uses some highly regarded stone maker for their ware, all agreed, and the cost was moderate. I sharpened 6 1095 High Carbon knives and they ranged from Butcher to paring and had a camp knife thrown in. All were new and 5 had been fed to that belt "Work Sharp" mini belt sharpening tool that has as its only flaw it eats the blade aggressively. I redid all the blade contours of every knife and it took no time at all and my progress was clearly evident at every point. . The stone I used the most was the Jap 120 wet. I never thought I would have anything left and I had bought 6 of that stone. I used 120 300, 400, 520 and 800 Jap stones and a white 1000 and 3000 wet stones. These are the sharpest knives I have ever sharpened and I am stoked. I ordered three diamond stones so I guess I am stoned for life.
Ruixin is flimsy and will break. The weak point looks to be the hinge that holds the sliding rod. It is plastic. It actually gets very little stress but I can make a new one in an hour from aluminum stock, a file, saw and drill. Not worried and, like I said, it shows no wear after a couple hours of hard use.
The Ruixin mount will not hold on a sink/counter top. Actually it needs a smooth surface for the rubber suction cup to work. Worked on my stove top swell.
At the $43 price this is the bargain of the century. EP goes for $400 and can't do more.
<removed. read the rules> I recommend it highly. There are other models that screw or bolt to the bench surface if you have a dedicated space and that model is a few dollars cheaper.
