We have a store in town called Sportsman's Warehouse (I'll refer to as SW from here on). They have a decent selection of knives. They have 3 knives (same folder design) that have about a 3.5"-4" somewhat upswept partially serrated blade with an obtuse-ish point (BK10-ish), looks to be aluminum handles (one knife was black, one was OD, and one was red), each knife has a glass-breaker tip one the end opposite the blade pivot, and each knife has a recessed 'belt cutter' on the end of the handle. On the red knife the belt cutter portion of the handle was florescent yellow in color. The knife handled and worked well, but the blade stock seemed thin, and the liner lock looked thin and cheap. But, these knives are wicked expensive, with the cheapest one (red) selling for $169.95!!!! Ugh! Oh yea, these knives have a very simple skinny black pocket clip, too.

I've searched online, went to Fox's site and Ruko's site, and I can't find boo about this knife. Has anyone ever seen this knife? What is it? Does it have a name or model number? If someone knows what knife I'm talking about, have you ever seen it anywhere else (Internet) for sale? It is a cool piece, but the price vs. quality seems way off.

Thanks!

Marc

Hello hikeeba....

First off, Welcome to Bladeforums.com...

Secondly..

Must be a typo on the price tag..

If it says RUKO, then the price should read

$1.69

Not $169...

Someone is High on Testors Model Glue I think....

Anything Ruko,, move the decimal to the left a few times..:)

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the welcome :).

You know, I originally thought Ruko was on the lines of MTech. I see by their website that they import Fox Cutlery from Italy. I can't say I've been overly impressed with Fox stuff, either. But I don't think it's a typo on the part of Sportsman's Warehouse (SW). They have a whole row of different camo-finished folders that have prices starting around $70 and going up! Later last night I saw one of the camo knives on eBay with a buy it now price of around $27.00!

I don't know, I just don't get the pricing thing. Perhaps SW has some sort of exclusive on these pieces, and feel they'll be able to sell them at exorbitant prices. As a rescue professional (currently non-affiliated), rescue knives and tools always catch my eye, thus my interest in this piece. However, at $170, I wouldn't consider buying it in a million years. Not even if it was $70. But the fact that I can find no info whatsoever on the piece will keep me wondering...

Edited (bold). my brain tends to go way faster than my fingers.

Is this the knife you are referring to?

I found it on a UK website and the price is 90 pounds. By the time you paid shipping charges that wouldn't be to far off $169.00.

Fox makes some very good knives. The Spyderco Volpe is made by Fox Cutlery of Italy.

Hey Guys..

I don't know anything about Fox..
I was actually talking about (Choke) RUKO's Flea Market Knives with Pakwood handles...

Utter Garbage....

That Red/Yellow knife is nice looking,, but I wouldn't spend $160 on it..
The clip alone would put it out of the running for me...

If you are looking for a Rescue type knife,, look at the Spyderco Rescue...
Great knife as far as I'm concerned....

Hi Keith,

That's the knife! However, the one at SW has a different blade. The one at SW has an upward curve to the blade, and an actual point like this <, instead of the sheeps foot style pictured above. I do not remember the little grippy serrations on the top of the blade near the tip.

Wow, 90 pounds plus shipping, eh? Yep, that would be on par with SW pricing. Sweet looking piece, but priced out of my league for a 'user' piece.

So what is that knife? Fox A.L.S.R.? Keith, can you shoot me the UK link where you found it? Thanks!

And when I ran with the FD, I carried an old Spyderco Clipit Rescue. For a little while I tried a CRKT serrated Bear Claw, but found the Spyderco worked much better and was easier to carry. Shortly before I left the FD, the Spyderco was lifted out of my turnout gear at the station and never resurfaced. Dang. I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet.

And finally, slightly off topic: I believe some Fox items are sold through A.G. Russell. Does anyone know if Fox made the goosewing/bearded axes (now called the Camp Axe) that A.G. sells are made by Fox?

A store in our town has a pretty good stock of Ruko Knives. Most sell for 15.00 to 65.00. I have used a few of their hunting knives and they were decent knives. They are 420 Stainless steel. Most of these are Chinese but then so are several of the Buck and Cold steel knives.

I've been curious about those FOX folders as well and had a good look at them several times from the windows of a local shop. Their liner lock is patethically thin and the contact/locking surface seems to be minimal. I think the knife design is interesting and it would deserve a thicker blade and a better lock. For what they are, they are overpriced and I wouldn't trust my fingers to them. I cannot bring myself to like most of their new so called "military line"; it's a shame because they use to make good quality no-nonsense stuff at a decent price. As a company they have excellent manufacturing capabilities and they are able to deliver some very nice products e.g. various ag russel knives, spyderco volpe and hossom fixed blades, and I think the Ontario hossom folders.

I have a Fox/Ruko Predator II folder, and I couldn't be more happy with it, FWIW. Interestingly, I bought it from Sportsmans Warehouse on sale for $50.00.
