My ignorant buddy (sure, a plain blade Harsey at Wallyworld dude!) went by the local gun 'superstore' (Carters Country) and saw some Ruko knives. He is a snob, and they turn him on because they are Solingen steel made in Germany.

Anybody have comments?

I myself would buy Taiwan, or even China IF I liked what I handled.

I picked up a knife in Zellers in '96 or '97... 4" skinner w/ nylon/kraton handle... the display AND box both said Ruko, but I searched around this last year, and found something interesting.

The Number, PIK-AS, is a 'Muela' model(under the 'susvival' section of thier site). I asked the Muela folks about it, and was surprised at what I was told. It is only 440c steel(and it's well done for edge holding)!!! I have my Delica(ats-55) that goes dull faster. It takes an edge like my vg-10 Calypso jr.

other than the odd reactions walking down the street with a 4" skinner on your belt, it's a great knife. I'm more than pleased with it, took it camping with me over the last 5 years as a camp knife.

Ruko is a distributor of ,well, alot of things. They sell everything from co2 powered harpoon guns to the gaudiest, most craptacular POS's that has seen the light of day. They carry some other "camping" stuff like compasses, binoculars etc. Plus they have a wide range of zippo knock offs, ya know the ones with keep on truckin and such, blech IMHO. Hope this helps.

Okay. I have input.

At a joint called "Pro Defense" we saw several knives. Among them were some Taiwanese auto knives with Ruko on the box. They seem like fun, nearly worthless toys. Almost bit for $24.95 but was strong enough to walk away.

At "Carters Country" we looked at knives. The Rukos buddy was interested in are sized about Vapor size. They are at least as solid as anything in the price/size class and have a certain appeal being german made. He ended up with an 016 (or maybe 0016) with Kydex scales and a black coated 440 blade with lazor cut serrations. Seems to be quite sharp. Only drawback I see is where the clip is attached it leaves a bunch of knife up out of the pocket!

I looked at a Kershaw Double Cross (and was tempted!!!). Again I was strong enough to walk away. It is a very nice knife (built in Japan) and I will have one for my LF pocket eventually!

Damned if I might not have to get one of those Rukos too....
