Most of you know that I don't get outside this forum except sometimes when I click a link in some post that takes me to another forum. As a result I don't know what's going on anywhere but here.

Evidently, individual sales are a no-no -- something I was not aware of -- so we'll have to put a stop to that. Blues tells me we were getting complaints about breaking this rule so we'll have to quit. And, he was good enough to take appropriate action on a couple of threads to keep us out of further trouble. Thanks for help, Blues.

I don't view the PGAs or UBDOTDs as individual sales and will keep posting them until somebody tells me to stop.

Sorry.

What, then, constitutes an individual sale? I dont get it.

The problem, I think, is that Basic Members were selling their Khukuris here in the HI forum, while only Gold members are allowed to post threads with knives for sale, and only in The Exchange.

I hope they keep letting Bill post his PGA's here...

(it was probably the spyderco folks that ratted us out...they're an evil bunch... :D )

I think there's a difference between individuals selling stuff and companies. All the deals I put up are company sales.

To quote BLUES:

"SORRY GUYS, BUT ONLINE SELLING BY MEMBERS IS NOT PERMITTED AT THE "BASIC" MEMBERSHIP LEVEL. THAT APPLIES ANYWHERE ON THE BF SITE."

So FREE Basic members don't have the
privilege of posting items for sale here.

Everyone who pays for membership
pays for that privilege and may do so.

Seems reasonable to me.

Guys, this is copied verbatim from Spence's thread as I don't like to type more than I have to (unless I'm being a wiseass in the Phantom thread).

Let's try not to make a huge issue of this so as not to create problems for Uncle Bill.

Message follows:

A Little Clarification

Spence,

No apology necessary, but your graciousness is appreciated.

Munk,

Doesn't matter who the naysayer was or if he/she was a member of the forum, just the fact that it was bringing attention where none was wanted.

Yvsa,

I have a feeling you're right re: Bill's and HI's status on the forum, but I think there's been an implicit "don't ask/don't tell" attitude adopted and that's fine with me.

Regarding pix, you can post pix but they won't be hosted by the site if you are not a paying member.

As for the rest, let me just say the following. None of the moderators on this site get paid for their efforts, such as they are.
Like 'em or don't like 'em, they do it on their own time and at their own expense.

This site is owned by Spark and it costs money to keep it up and running. The reason why different categories of membership were created was to make the site self sustaining. To get folks to want to upgrade their membership, Spark offered certain perks. (Hosted Pictures, Private Messaging, Selling etc.)

Some don't mind paying, others complain, kind of like with most things in the world. The bottom line is that there is a cost involved in maintaining the site and those who don't contribute shouldn't (as I see it) make that much noise about what they can and can't do since they are being provided privileges and access gratis at no cost to themselves.

As I implied in the respective threads, I don't get any big joy out of taking "official" steps and try to be as discreet and unassuming as possible, but the site doesn't belong to me and I try to do my role as quietly as possible to keep this place up and rolling.

Thanks for listening.

Can a paying member post a sale in this forum? Or do they have to do that somewhere else?

Vicks,

The short answer is that all sales by members (I'm not referring to Uncle Bill here) should be posted in the appropriate "Sale" venue on the site, regardless of their membership status. In other words, they should not be posted here on the HI forum.

Same goes for "Knives For Trade" or "Knives Wanted" both of which may be posted by all members regardless of level, but technically are not supposed to be in this forum. (I think Uncle Bill will have some latitude in this area if he deems it appropriate.)

If members want to learn what knives are available for sale or trade it'll take just a bit more effort but it'll keep things in line with the policy and avoid future problems for this forum.

What I am posting below is taken from Spences thread *Sorry for Etiquette Breach*

Before this gets wrapped up I would like to say that it was me that reported Spence's thread to a Moderator. It is correct that I have, until this time, not posted on this forum. I came here to do some reading because I am thinking of getting a Khukri and thought that this would be the best place to get an education.

I did not pick on Spence. I reported the thread because it was near the top and one of the first that I read and because selling knives on any forum except the proper exchange forum is verboten. This was not done to ruin a good thing that you guys had. I did not even know that it was something that was accepted on this forum.

Rusty, I can understand your thoughts towards me, and that goes for all the rest of you that think I am an ass (or worse) for doing what I did.

This is my first time back to this forum since the shyte hit the fan and that is the reason I have not come forward before this. Thinking that this for sale add was an isolated incident not an accepted part of this forum, I did not think that I would be causing so much trouble.

Please feel free to flame away. I have a thick skin and can take it. You have a right to state your opinion of what I did and a right to vent.

I figured I owed it to you guys to step forward.

As I stated in the other thread, the actions taken were mine and mine alone. I happened upon the threads in question independently and wasn't aware (at the time) that Keith had made any report.

Keith is a stand up guy, but don't blame him for the actions that I took on my own.

Let's put this to bed.

...even though my name is also Keith. I certainly woud not impose rules on a forum that I only recently joined.
