rules are for fools?

About all you can do is make a note of the seller's name and boycott their auctions in the future.

Of course there could be other explanations for "item no longer available". But still, I wouldn't waste my time watching and bidding on sellers like that.

Here is a nice one that many of us would have liked to have. Several bids were out, then, lo and behold, the seller (and buyer) did a side deal and bypassed the system. This is the kind of thing that chaps my arse.

That knife would have sold for well over $120 -$150, I alway think what it sold for. I will not buy from that seller again, That is how eBay works from time to time.

I watched this one disappear too! I didn't follow my own advice this time but best thing to do if you see a listing like that is to immediately bid the opening amount which makes it more difficult for seller to end auction early. Not bidding the 99 cents right away I see as my own fault. You snooze you lose...

Was there an opening bid placed? I know the seller somewhat, on a "we exchange emails and talk knives" first name basis, though. I've never met him. He's given me some nice deals on BEST OFFER options. I also know there are a lot more Schrade knives to be listed from. He bought a huge collection. He'd tell me where it went if I asked him. If no bids were placed, I don't cry foul either.

Perhaps I went off half-cocked; for some reason I had it in my head that there were bids placed. If not, I owe someone an apology. I have stopped an auction myself in which no bids had been placed.

You were right the first time and I was wrong. There were indeed a number of bids already in place that were cancelled. That is kinda cheesy but who knows maybe the dude's best friend wanted it. Wh't-cha-gonna-do

I've heard of folks stopping an auction because the item was either lost, stolen, or broken. You just never know. :)
