I just heard a rumor from a guy I know concerning Benchmade 2nd knives. He claims that Benchmade want to buy back all of it's Bali-Song 2nds. Does this sound ridiculous to anyone else, or is there some grain of truth in that rumor? If it's true, I guess my chancds of getting a BM-45 2nd. just went down the drain.

LOL, if that is the case than I will make sure I get the most outta my 2 2nds. :D Where did you hear it from??

Well, since it seems I'm not gonna get it on ebay, here's the link to the auction. I'm gonna regret this, but I've already been outbid three or four times :barf:

I hate to do this...

I'm sure this auciton will go way over $200, but I don't have the funds to grab it.

When you hear something like this, pause and think about it.

Put yourself in Benchmade's position. Do they maybe regret having sold 2nds? Maybe. Many of us have sold something at a time of financial need that we'd now like to have back.

But, if you were BM, would you spend your company's money to buy those 2nds back just because maybe they hurt your pride just a little bit? The market value on those pieces is well-established at around $200 each. Buying them all back would cost a good fraction of a million dollars.

And, if you did try, you could not succeed. There are many collectors who simply would not sell their 2nds. So, you could spend a huge chunk of money and still not get all those 2nds back.

Benchmade has not gotten to be a successful company by wasting money like that.

Think!

Na.. that can't be true on BM buying back those 2nds... Like Chuck said it doesn't make sense.

I do know there was just one box (big box) that Les sold to one dealer here in the Midwest. As far as I know, that was the only 2nds that ever left the factory. I not only seen that box but had a chance to buy that box at a super deal (I knew the dealer). At the time I wasn't collecting balis nor did I realize the market for them. I did buy a few (the ones I have today) for anywhere from $18. for the cheaper models (like the 239s and etc.) and $30. for the better models (like the 45s, 44s and etc.) If I would of bought that box I would be buying each one of you a car or better by now. grin..:) The dealer that bought the box from Les has since died several years ago. His son is still in the knife business, and wishes he had that box back to do it all over again. He is stunned also on how the market went.

My missed major missed opportunity of a lifetime. I just dream sometimes, that box is sitting in my living room. :(

:D

So, the guy on ebay was full of it, eh? Well, I have the high bid, but I expect someone around herer to jump on it and grab the thing from me. I'll add this much to the discussion about the knife on ebay...from the pictures (Had to to a bit of cutting and pasting to get them to appear) it looks like a BM-45, with a "2nd" stamped on the swedge of the blade. Here are the links to the actual pictures so you can decide for yourself.

This is the "2nd" stamp...

Next up is the latch...

Finally, a side view...

Hopefully, none of you guys is greedy enough to keep me from winning this baby. :D :D
