Running sunglasses

We get threads every once in a while on sunglasses but this is slightly different. I just started running again and doing it while its bright out has reminded me that my normal sunglasses won't be good enough. They're too heavy and move around too much with vigorous activity. 10 years ago when I last ran seriously, Oakley M-Frames were the best I could find for this application. How are they now and what else would you guys recommend?

instead of asking for recommendations, you should hit up sunglasses hut and try on a whole ton of sunglasses.

find out what's comfortable for you.

as for name brand, oakley is indeed a very popular brand.

i wear oakley minutes, not polarized. they are the cheapest frames on the oakley lineup, still 100+ :(, are very light, relatively durable, and grab onto your face quite well. i bike and run, and have never had any problems.

so if they look good on you, get the minutes. ;)

A lot can change in ten years, but not everything does :)
I bought M frames ~8 years ago. Great for running, and outdoor sports. Great for everything, IMO.
Been looking for suitable replacements for a while now, and a few weeks ago, I decided to get a new pair of sunglasses, and did some more shopping around.
I bought another pair of M frames.
I wear the old ones for safety glasses/work, and the new ones any time the sun is shining.
I've got a "thing" for sunglasses, and frequently check out different types/brands. When I find something I like better, I'll buy them, but M frames have been, and remain, my favorites after al this time.
Very comfortable, and secure, with a wide variety of available lenses. Can't think of anything more suited for running.

Check out Native Eyewear - http://www.nativeyewear.com/

I bought some a while back and really like them because they're super light weight, come with polarized (and non-polarized) lenses which are interchangable, neoprene nosepads, straight temples, and aeration holes at the brow. They're designed for hardcore mountain biking but make a great everyday wearing sunglass, or for high-activity sports because they fit great and are comfortable, and stay on your face very well.

2 big thumbs up for Natives. Replaceable lenses are like $25 also if you scratch em or just want another color. I think I paid around $100 for the glasses, btw.

Unfortunately, I can't comment on using them running (run, but I don't wear sunglasses while doing it), but the natives ARE good. Bought a pair over a year ago. While on a deployment, actually raked'm across a concrete helo pad (under my size 14 foot). Had one small scratch on one lense (which is outstanding in and of itself) and scrapped up part of the frame...actually didn't bother me very much, so I just used their warranty service last month ($20 and it is a lifetime warranty--screw'm up again and it is another $20  Only asked to have the lense replaced on my RIPP's...sent me back an entire new pair of glasses and turn around was less than two weeks.

Clarity is outstanding, they DO stay on your face and perspiration does not get on the lenses (pet-peeve).

Worth a serious consideration. Nativeeyewear.com.

I got a pair of Oakley Half Jackets for running, they work great. Nike also has a few models worth considering. Here's a good article on running sunglasses from Runner's World (good mag BTW) http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,5033,s6-52-0-0-621,00.html. Hope this helps, and good luck with your running! :) Are you just doing it for fun or are you getting ready for a race? Running is my other hobby; let me know if you want any info or advice.

I went to my local mall Sunglass Hut to check out sunglasses today. I asked the girl what she'd recommend for running and she picked some pretty decent ones. I already knew the M Frames would be nice, and they were. Other Oakleys I liked were the Half Jackets, possibly more than the M Frames. This is kind of ironic, because I completely forgot that those were recommended here until just now when I reread the thread. They were $100 there so I might have to scope out ebay. They didn't carry any of the other 'running' sunglasses that I've read good reviews on. I think she had me try on some titanium frame Bolles that were $250. They were nice, but not quite what I wanted.

As for running, I haven't ran since my 'college' years. I figure its about time to start up again to get in better cardio shape. I have no weight to lose so thats not the reason. ;)

I'd also like to break the 4 min mile while I still have the potential (I think I do). My best is 4:24 or thereabouts.

Thanks.

Dunno about running - I always feel that's for people who forgot to take their bicycle. :-) However, I got the M-frames some 8 years ago and never regretted the money spent. Having a wide, uninterrupted view without dead angles is important on a road-bicycle. Strictly, the price is outrageous but that's the price of wanting the "good" stuff.

As many others' have mentioned; there are a multitude of manufacturers' with their own version of "sport" sunglasses, many of them very suitable for running. I use a pair of Bolle' that I believe are called "Lodo". Nothing particularly special about the Bolle's just that they fit my face comfortably. That is probably the most important issue.
