Running your grinder backward is handy sometimes.

I found a good use for running your grinder backward.
When you flat grind blade lenghwise against platen belt tends to grab blade from your hand. If you run grinder backwards it's MUCH easier to hold the blade.
Try it and you'll see.
 
Good point. It's pushing the blade into your hand, if the grinder's run backwards. Now all I need is a reversible direction grinder...
 
If you run it backwards fast enough, you'll reverse time and decrease the total entropy of the universe! :D

That's what I was thinking Darren. Like Darrel said, it does make sharpening much easier, especially with a variable speed grinder.
