I received a phone call from my Cousin Tony the day before yesterday.

Tony called to let me know that his brother Nick was in from his home in Montana to run the Boston Marathon, which Nick has been running for the last 20 years or so. At this time, Tony is going through Chemo Therapy, for a cancer, which was discovered in his stomach last October. This year Nick signed a pledge for his run and it was dedicated to Tony, for a healthy recovery. This year was an especially tough year at the Marathon, with the rain and a strong head wind for 90% of the race, but Nick had to run the distance, as he as he was running for Tony.

Nick moved out to Montana about 30 years ago and has been working for the National Forestry Service since then. He’s quite the mountain man, as far as I’m concerned, as he lives quite a Spartan life style, living in the mountains and supplementing his needs by hunting, fishing, etc.

When in the area (mostly for the marathon), Nick likes to visit family. He came to my house yesterday early evening bearing gifts.

That’s Nick on the left, and Tony on the right and me in the middle with the elk antler that Nick brought. Those pieces are all that Nick could fit into his suitcase, as the other pices were too large to fit! Nick gave me a photo of the elk that he shot this year about 5 miles (as the crow flies) from his house. My wife is going to scan them at work today so I can post them. The rack on Nicks latest kill has to be 3 to 4 feet tall, WOW.

My wife and I are amazed that Tony is doing so well; we really didn’t expect to see him, with this Chemo that he’s going through. Tony is in the second phase of Chemo, and it’s really kicking the $hit out of him, but he felt that he was up for the ride down from Belchertown, MA for the visit, and we're glad he did.

With prayer and medical technology, I'm sure that Tony will make it; as he's one though SOB

I’ll post pics of the elk that Nick shot last year, when Linda gets them scanned.

See ya.

best wishes to Tony as well. my uncle by marriage had a tumor removed from his brain a few years back so i know how you feel and some of what hes going thru. keep us informed of his progress.

Good post, I'm glad your friend is doing well. My mom survived ovarian cancer, she lived 30 more productive years after; my best friend survived pancreatic cancer  and is going strong 3 years later. In both cases, I believe their heart or guts or soul (whatever you want to call it) had a lot to do with their recovery.

BTW my friend swears that V8-juice and fresh veggies were the key for him. I don't have any "evidence" on that but it can't hurt.

Glad to see they could both make it out and that you guys had a good visit. All my best to Tony for a full remission and speedy recovery from the chemo.

Best wishes to Tony; hang in there!
As a cancer survivor, I can say they do amazing things to combat cancer these days, even if the means and methods do make you sicker'n a dog. :D

Larry My best to Tony also they are doing good things now with that stuff

Hey Fellas,

Thanks so much for your well wishes to my Cousin Tony  Like I said, Tony is actually one tough guy, which he has proved over the years.

We've gone from thinking that Tony has 9 lives, to figuring that he has 29 lives. It's amazing!

I really can't explain all the mis-adventures this man has survived over the last 35 years  no exaggeration, most of them being near death situations.

Thanks again

Here is a Pic of Cousin Nick with the head of elk he shot last hunting season, about 5 miles (as the crow flies) from his home.

I reckon he hadn't shaved since the Boston Marathon of 2006.

By the way, that's what Cousin Tony's beard looked like before the Chemo :( , maybe a little more gray ;)
