Mr. Andrews' work certainly needs no introduction to this crowd and both of these knives have been posted before BUT they're new to me.

First off is one of Russ' Master Smith Test pieces from 2008 - its a foot-long beauty of W2 that has to have one of the nicest satin finishes ever!

Next up is its evil twin in Damascus

Here's a WIP thread started by Stephen F - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/693862-Slow-reveal-......-the-dark-side-emerges-...

Lastly the pair together...

My thanks go out to Mr. Andrews for such fine craftsmanship and to Mr. Foster for his "momentary lapse of reason" to sell this pair!

Callings "dibs" has worked out very good for me again :D

Russ' 2008 straight steel MS test piece just blows me away !
Then I saw the evil damascus twin, WOW !
Congrats on a stunning pair, Michael !!

I remember these well and they are just as spectacular now as then

Congrats buddy

Normally, I would just call you out for the dirty rotten scoundrel you are Mr. Starr.

But your perfidious purloining of these beauties from a fine collector suffering a momentary lapse in judgement, is beneath contempt!

Best,

P

P.S. Nicely done.

This outstanding pair has moved from the possession of one friend to another - I am just happy to get a second look. I have held the carbon steel version in hand, and yes, that is as perfectly executed a satin finish as one could hope for. And the precision fitment of the filed ferrules is nothing to sneeze at, either. I can well imagine how sweet the damascus version is. Congrats Michael!

You've got quite a pair! :D:p

The contrast between the two pieces is (sheaths included) must make for a stunning display.

Michael congratulations on one heck of a score!! A finer pair of sub-hilts and Russ Andrews knives just do not ever come available. How you managed this Coup is beyond me but "Well done"!! They are simply spectacular, enjoy them for years to come.

You're a lucky man Michael.
I got to handle and examine both of these pieces and they are outstanding.
Fit/finish is exceptional and they feel quite good in the hand.

Either one of these alone is a great score. Both of them at once...a dream come true! Congratulations!!!

Wow, Michael! That is a pair to draw to. John stated it best...elegant pair supreme.

Always a treat seeing Russ' work on here.

Congratulations definitely in order!

It was hard letting these go, possibly the hardest of all my sales.

Those that know something of me probably also know that I have a career that takes me around quite a bit, in fact I type this from a quiet hotel 160 miles northwest of Shanghai :grumpy: In the last 2 or 3 years I have got to admire my fixed blade collection out side of the safe about twice. Being in Europe the laws regarding large fixed blades are also burdensome and ever changing, such that on a couple of longer term placements cross border I have had to put the collection storage. I have even had a rather strained dialogue with ne countries customs officials. My solution has been to slowly migrate the focus of my collection to my other passion, traditional slip joints.

In fact these two Andrews sub hilts will be replaced early next year by a rather special set of slipjoints by Russ, who is without doubt one of my favourite makers both for his undeniable skill and his goodness of character.

Enjoy the set Michael, they are very special, but don't feel too sorry for me, my slipjoint collection is building nicely, its fairly "authority" friendly , and its easy to slip a coupl of examples into my suit case to fondle on the lonely nights in hotels :D:D;)

Cheers

Stephen
