Greetings all,

Here is a pair that recently arrived from Russ, via Coop, courtesy of Les.

The hunter came first - I spotted the name "Andrews" on Les' list of incoming blades and got on the blower right quick.

The bowie is Russ' Hawthorne model - which we have seen before with blades in the 6 1/2" to 7 1/2" range. This is the big boy of that design. Having been lurking in the vicinity at the Chicago show when maker and dealer were chatting, I heard about the order for the full size Hawthorne and asked asked Les to mark that "sold" as soon as he got it in.

I had Russ to hang onto the hunter until the bowie was done - and I'm glad that I did. It gave us a chance to explore something a little different in matched sheaths and I am very pleased with how the light deerskin inlays under dark leather turned out.

Specs are as follows:

Bowie - 10" blade of forged W2 with an active but subtle hamon. Hand rubbed to 1500 grit. Overall length of 15". Ironwood handle with stainless steel double-guard and ferrule.

Hunter - 4 1/2" blade fo forged W2, hand rubbed to 800 grit (which, when done as perfectly as Russ does it, looks darned near as fine as the bowie). Overall length 9 1/2". Ironwood handle with stainless steel single guard.

Okay, enough chatter - on to the pics.

My thanks to Russ, Coop and Les - always a pleasure to work with consummate professionals.

Roger,

Now you are buying them in PAIRS! :grumpy:

Not much to say, if you have eyes, the greatness is obvious.

You are out of control, imho!

Beauties, if you get tired of that Bowie, you know where to find me.

P

Peter, I agree. He IS out of control, and something needs to be done about it. I think we need to enlist the Soprano boys to go have a "Chat" wit him.

;) :D

Outstanding pair, my good man! Bravo!:)

hi Roger,

The hunter is very well done (no surprise). I got a peek of the Bowie before it was shipped.

One of the best looking bowies I have ever seen. Awesome knife!

Love the sheaths too!

Russ Andrews makes some of the most perfectly balanced tastefully adorned and wonderfully finished knives out there period ..just Beautiful.
Roger you suck! you tag the wheeler integral now this stunning pair..if you weren't such a nice guy Id have to have you eaten...Congrats Enjoy and thanks for the coop shots !

The usual elegant and clean design we have come to expect from Russ. Extraordinary ironwood. The sheaths are very unique and worthy of the knives.
I'm especially fond of the hunter.

So rich I must shield my eyes. Matching handles impressive, as is the superb egg-shell finish of the ironwood. Not a bowie guy, but that one will do.

Hi Roger

well you won't need to photograph those but bring them by anyway sometime as I'd love to see them in person. Nice pairing of great knives. Good addition to your collection of Bowie/Hunter combos.

Are you sure Roger? Do you really want to keep them? Is your safe big enough for all those knives? ..... don't you ever worry about them! The more you have, the more there is to lose ....Wouldn't it be easier to let someone else look after them all for you, take the worry and stress away .........

Congrats! Fantastic set!

Thanks very much for the comments, guys.

Riad - I know, I know... :o

Peter - thanks, Paulie always scared the crap out of me.

Matthew - the inserts are deerskin. Here's another look at hunter and sheath:

And for those that like this sort of stuff, the bowie at earlier stages:

As my grandfather use to say, "There's two of a pair!" As I would say, "Man, I'd love to own that pair!"
Very nice package, Roger. Super work by Russ, as usual. Really like the sheaths, also. Could get to like ironwood more if it all looked and was finished like that.
Thanks for sharing these!

I can't add more to this thread. The photos are clear, but they do NOT make the knife looks 'better than it really is'. (Which is always my goal.) ;)

It's the real deal.

Thanks, guys for this opportunity. Nice!
