the knife is not in my hands yet, it's travelling from jim cooper back to russ who will send it over the ocean, but i already have coop's pictures, and they excited me so much that i decided to post them now.

this is a modified Hawthorne PC. it has a beefy 8" blade, made from a 960 layer random damascus billet of 1087/15N20. the guard and the ferrule are from the same billet, but twisted by 90° to the blade (is that proper english? well, you'll know what i mean...). the handle is made from a spectacular piece of crotch black walnut. it should be rather difficult to separate it from the tang, as the tang is threaded and the nut is hidden under a plug.

nice, isn't it?

regards from a happy camper,
hans

"Spectacular" is an apt description for that walnut - and the whole knife is an example of Andrews excellence. Congrats Hans!

Where's the drooling smilie, when I need it? That is a sweeeeet knife! :)

In proper English - "nice" doesn't quite seem sufficient.
How about amazing, beautiful, captivating...you get the idea!

Enjoy it in good health, Hans.
Did Russ provide a sheath with it?

960 layers???!! I was like... WHOAAAA!

The grain on this handle is about 3/4 of a mile deep. The whole knife is extreme in richness.

And minimal in extras. Just right.

Hans, I'm glad for you!

Coop

Thanks guys, for the comments...
Michael: Since this is the first 8" Hawthorne PC, I prefered the pic sans sheath, but
one will be with it when it goes out to Hans.

Coop.....Good stuff...Thanks.

"Lovely" is the word that came to mind when I saw this. Looking at it is like a cool drink for the eyes. It's so nice it's soothing.

wow, well that sums it up for me too. I wouldn'a thought of it that way, but I really can dig that.

Super knife you got there. I seem to like every knife Russ makes and this is a perfect example of why.

Congratulations on a fine addition.

thanks a lot for your comments, gentlemen!

once there was a campaign for that silly Smart car. the slogan was "reduce to the max" and also quite silly, as the car was not the acme of human ingenuity, it was just small.

but the slogan would be perfect for russ' knives. he is able to strip down a knife to blade, guard and handle and get as close to a perfect tool as possible. that is a kind of simplicity that amazes me each time i hold one of russ' knives in my hand. i am convinced that it won't be any different with this knife. heck, it's a bit like christmas when i was six!

best regards,
hans

Hans,

Congrats on this new masterpiece for your treasure chest !

Pure Russ. What else can I say. Huge congratulations are in order on this one! The guard/ferrule result is spectacular.

This is wonderful, reduced knife and that damascus is some of my favorite that I've seen for awhile....
