Are the Russel Grandaddy Barlows and other shown in the new SMKW catalog a good deal @ $25-$30. I like that barlow, but it seems HUGE  @ 5" closed. They apear to be made in or around Solingen. Ad says they have carbon steel blades.

Thanks

I don't have the Daddy Barlow but I do have an example of the standard sized two blade Barlow from that collection.

Everyone that I have had contact with, myself included, has unanimously praised the quality of the smaller Barlow. (They are made by Boker under license.)

Hopefully someone will chime in on the larger version. If it's like the smaller, it's a steal at the price. And yes, they are good carbon steel blades.

I have the Russell Daddy Barlow from the 1987 set. I've carried the small Barlow a lot, the Daddy is just too big for my needs. It is a beautiful knife, the stag on it is some of the prettiest stag that I own.

Here's mine in comparison to some of my other Barlows.

the SMKW barlows are not stag. they are sawscut bone. If they looked like the one in Phil's pic, I would have already bought one. :D

wildcat, I have had the Russell barlow from SMKW for about 3 months now. The knife is made in Soligen Germany. Mine is the E-Z opener version. It is a very solid knife with good fit and finish that opens smooth and has no blade play. I used it a lot for cleaning fish and other outdoor camp chores and it preformed very well. It was a bargain for the price and one of my favorite blades. Joe
