Just wondering if anyone here has experience with Russell shoes or boots? They look like a first rate operation, offering many options on their footwear. But, like all things quality, it's expensive.

I have a pair and they are worth every penny I paid for them. They are very well-built, fit me to a "T" because they were built around the outline of my foot, and are extremely comfortable.

I forgot the exact model I bought, I think it's a premium version of the Upland Bird boot (I think the lightweight double-vamp model). They are comfortable like a moccasin or boat shoe, because they are true moccasin construction, meaning the leather is wrapped completely around the foot, rather than being merely sewn onto both sides of the sole. This makes them very compliant and comfortable.

Mine perform well in the wooded hills of New England, and I expect they would perform well in the Upland Game fields they were designed for. If you were looking for a boot to pack heavy loads over sharp rocks you should look elsewhere. These boots were not designed for that--but rather to make your feet happy through a day of hunting or light hiking. I think Russell makes heavier-duty boots, a Rocky Mountain style, but I'm not sure.

Call them if you have any questions. I did and they were terrific on recommending uppers and soles based on my intended use. They also set me up with the appropriate dressing/waterproofing. I liked them so much I also bought a pair of chukkas.
