Hi,

I have found some rather exquisite looking art knives on the site below:

www.rusartknife.urbannet.ru

Though not to everybodies taste some of the pieces have really got my attention, as I try to pick up representative pieces on my travels.

Do we have any Russian members who could advise on the standard and pricing of these knives? Or anyone who has purchased on of these?

I am thinking of planning a trip to Moscow and would love to bring back one of these as a souvenir.

Thanks,

Stephen

While I don't know anything about the knives in question, I did find some really nice Russian artwork in glass while in Amsterdam last year. They took glass and burned (using a laser) really nice artistry into it. The three dimensional scenes they created reminded me very much of the finest glasswork I have seen in Europe (Austria mainly) even though it was of such a differnt nature. I understand the Russians behind this artistry have moved on to Las Vegas, Nevada so I may have to track them down and get one while I'm there.

I think that some of the Russian knives that I have seen are exceptionally nice, but many are more artistic than I like.

nozh2002 is a Russian member of BladeForums and he seems to be very much into these kinds of knives. I would be willing to bet that he would be very helpful.

WOW!!!

There is no escaping the amount of detail and out-of-the-box styling these high-art knives have. I'm floored!

Here's a couple that stopped me cold:

And ALL the photography is very involved. I want to cry... :( ;)

These guys take their knifemaking VERY seriously! Thanks for the link. It's a saver.

I saw a whole bunch of them at a dealer's table in 1999 at the Atlanta Blade show. Most were very ornate, boardering on kitch, but the old world skills that were captured in the pieces was truly breath taking. It is fair to say I was gob smacked.

I like some of the less ornate and traditional Russian knives very much.

The one above has little ornateness and a very functional design.

This one shows the traditional stacked birch bark handles.
