This is regular model - steel is 65Х13 (similar to 440А, AUS6, I2C27),

С=0.65 Si=0.3 Mn=0.4 Cr=13-15 Ni=0.25-0.4 Mo=0.02-0.10 V=0.02-0.10
440A C=0.65-0.75 Cr=16-18 Mn=1.0 Mo=0.75 P=0.04 Si=1 S=0.03
AUS6 C=0.55-0.65 Cr=13-14.5 Mn=1 Ni=0.49 P=0.04 Si=1 S=0.03

I like to see X12 steel
C=2-2.2 Si=0.1-0.4 Mn=0.15-0.45 Ni<0.35 S<0.03 P<0.03 Cr=11.5-13 Mo<0.2 W<0.2 V<0.15 Ti<0.03 Cu<0.3

They making knives out of X12 by request, I hope they will bring few knives with X12 here.

I ask Kizlyar on knife.ru to provide detailed specification on thet models. They have web site:

http://www.kizlyar.ru/

Thanks, Vassili

I saw a lot of those at the Moscow Knife Show. Some of the engraving is beautiful and they look overall like very nice knives.

I've got a Kizlyar Phoenix. It's one of their survival knives. It is very tough, and holds a good edge. Quite a few pig hunters in Australia are buying Kizlyar survival knives.

I have review by Relax for Kyzlyar Voron (Crow) - quite different style, moderm techno...:

Kizlyar-Voron-3-03.jpg

http://playground.sun.com/~nozh2002/Kizlyar-Voron-3.html

It is 4.2mm thick. You may notice - no guard on that knife, it is because of stupid Russian law which considers knife as a deadly weapon, so producers have to meet some standarts for Russian market.

Thanks, Vassili.

A guard protruding more than 5mm below the edge makes a knife a weapon under Russian law.

You can say what you want to about Russian law, but at least they have clear definitions.

heck, if we had some similar laws in place, maybe we could carry more knives in more places. or maybe not.

- English -----------------------
This is not a first time we hear that our Voron looks like Extrema Ratiom, but nobody sad what exact ER model it is similar to and why. Please check this ER knives for example and

http://www.knifeoutlet.com/catalog/Extrema_Ratio_Knives/

and compare with our Voron here for example

http://talks.guns.ru/forummessage/64/51616.htm

Our knife does not equal to any ER knives! Shape, size, design, etc. - all different. Black or camo coating as well as plastic handle we use on many knives. Only one things is similar - this "ребро жесткости" (don't know how to translate correctly - this things (srength bar?) in the middle of the blade which add strength to it), but many other knives of different manufacturers have it too. We have six different variations of this model Voron - four of them for military, two civilian models. Initially first run was by request from the military and they provide us this design initially, we change just a little bit shape and size on production models. This knife are extremely popular and highly demanded as tough, very relieble and cheap tool.

Kizlyar-Voron-3-01.jpg

-----------------------------------------------------------------

It is funny - but Kizlyar is actually victom of chaep kickoffs itself. It is well know and respected trademark - so many other make copies and sells them as Kizlyar knives in Russia in same. And "Kizlyar" is manufacturer from Kizlyar town - there are three other manufacturers from same Kizlyar town - "Zodiad", "Bulat" and "Poisk" which are different brand but also from Kizlyar, so "knives from Kizlyar" may be from four different manufacturers.

Thanks, Vassili.

So what do people think of the Voron and where is a good place to get it? I ran the the text on Nozh's site through a translator but it did'nt come out so well although I gather the review was positive. Not many places seem to have them?
Thanks, Rod.

Vassili, not bad, that BOPOH! :D

Seriously, I can see why people thought of ER, looking at the handle. The small projection at the butt is similar. The index finger choil is square, and wide enough for index and middle finger. But on the ER, it is indented on the sides of the handle also, not just underneath.

There really is only a slight cosmetic resemblance. The blade is completely different.

I can't find a good translation for "ребро жесткости" either. It's really just what's left of the flats of the blade after stock removal to form the edge and a swedge or sharpened spine.

Review is very positive. Relax was looking for field knife and choose this one in military style. Sheath is good and hold knife well and does not matter if you put it edge one side or another. Sharp enough to shave. Good non slippery rubber like comfortable handle. He only mentions that hollow grind is not good for choping, tends to stack in the wood but if you applay bit more force it makes job done. Edge continue to be sharp after chopping - that surprize him. Good and strong for throwing. Only real issue is - no guard, but this is again requirement of stupid russian law. I think military models have good guard.

I don't know is it available abroad. I can ask Kizlyar on Russian forum bring some in LasVegas SHOT Show. They sad on Russian forum they will bring some X12 steel knives there.

Thanks, Vassili.

G'day fellas. How are we all? Just a note on Kizlyar knives. I have 3 ( large Pheonix, Orlan and Kondor - their spelling ) of their military versions. The remaining versions that are for sale ( including both Voron models ) all have guards. Seeing as the company has sooooo many variations ( I found out from the sole Australian distributor who was living out here now for a few years - he was from the St Petersburg office / division ) maybe you got a Voron variation without a guard. So far I have already seen 4-5 different versions of their "Kite" model and the differences are only slight but evident.

If anyone wants more access to Kizlyar knives in Australia, I have the distributors contact delails etc.let me know what you want and I should be able to help you out ( maybe even with technical info ). He is away at the moment on a business trip but will be back soon. He has moved out here from St Petersburg and has been set up as the official Kizlyar rep / distributor. Or e-mail me - cgl_80@hotmail.com

There are two other Russian company there ROS-Oruzhie (Zlatoust) and Tula Bladethmithes (may be Tula Gunmakers, don't know for sure from Tula).

Thanks, Vassili.
