I was checking on some Venev stones and noticed that *all* of them were unavailable. Then I saw on Gritomatic's home page: "Selling the product Made in Russia is temporarily halted."

Crap. I have a Shirogorov knife in route from Russia - hope it doesn't get held up in Customs or worse.

just put tsprof blitz and venev stone in cart no problems or notice... maybe hydra is up to no good... kinda entertaining to watch euro bureaucrats announcing pox on putan, my dad use to talk bout poland as the buffer state historically, lines get moved, not good in this case. Pray for peace.

When I talked to them yesterday they said they are doing a thorough inventory and should have most of their stones back online by Wednesday. Venev stones are from the Ukraine so you can understand their concerns.
I called about a Kazak black pro and I wondered if I could get venev stones as a package. Long story short their customer service is Great!

I don't think boycotting the small Russian companies making knife sharpening stuff or knives is a sound strategic move. They are the ones that are engaged with the rest of the world and are most likely against their government's invasion of Ukraine. I completely support sanctions but they should target the leadership or country in general, not the small businesses and people who are probably against this. If the sanctions were a total blanket on everything then I would think differently.

Gritomatic lists country of origin for Venev stones as Russia. Where do you see they come from Ukraine?

Gritomatic old me that yesterday. They also said Hapstone sharpeners are made there too.

Looks like most stones are showing in stock again, except for some sets.

As far as I can tell, Hapstone systems are from the Ukraine. Looking at the Hapstone manufacturers website, their address is listed in Sumy, Ukraine. This seems to ne right where the Russian tanks are rolling through. I hope the Hapstone factory survives.

I completely agree with D Diemaker about his input above in post #8 about boycotting small manufacturers like these. These guys run mom & pop businesses, just trying to feed their families.

I really hope Gritomatic can keep their supply of sharpening systems going in the US while all of this is happening. Losing out on a steady supply of some of the epic systems that they sell (even for a short period) will be a huge blow to the sharpening world in the US and abroad.

In my eyes, Gritomatic USA has grown to be one of the best suppliers of top quality sharpening systems and stones on earth. They have an incredible selection for any sharpening enthusiast, hobbyist or professional.

Personally, I truly wish them well and I really hope everyone keeps supporting them during all of this craziness in the world.

I totally understand where you are coming from...but by the same token, unless there is some pain felt by the masses, (and subsequent crying out by those masses to their leaders in regard to what their policy is costing them), then there will be less incentive for changes to be effectuated.

It's unfortunate...but I think every effort must be made to put an end to the irreparable harm which has already been done.

The common Russian will certainly feel the sanctions, I just think it would be wise to not target them directly as that may have the effect of us against them vs us against their leadership. Our governments are installing some pretty severe targetted sanctions, and knives and knife sharpening are not on any of those lists.
