Survival knife "Vitalis" is designed by Russian survivel expert and knife designer IGOR SKRYLEV. he designed big amount of knives for Russian Air Forces, Special Forces, cosmonauts etc. Among them: survivel machete "Taiga"(Siberian heavy forest), wich looks like point-clipped kukri and can be used as shovel, ax, saw, sickle etc.; survivel knife for Russian Air Forces "Pilot"; knife for Russian SEALs "Katran"(Black Sea shark); knives for Russian Special Forces "Vampire" and "Plastun"(name for "scout" in Ukrainian and Russian Cossacks); survivel knife for Russian cosmonauts "Oboroten"(verwolf), tang of which is made as multitool (wood and metal saws, bottle and can openers and more) and handle is made like balisong's; knives series "Osa"(wasp) tangs of which are made as multitools, but handles are made as one pieces and can be thrown over blade or tang; knives "Lis"(fox), "Klyk"(fang), "Kogot"(claw), "Chameleon" and many more.
Most of them are big, thick and heavy drop-poinet and often recurved fixed blades with 1/3 - 2/3 of blades' backs edged. Back edges and "normal" edges often are serrated. Serration is often made symmetrically - on both sides of blades as on chess-board - and if we look at edge we can see sinusoidal line.
Most of Skrylev's knives are estimated by Russian authorityes as weapon and prohibited for selling to civilians in Russia.
Pic of "Vitalis" can be seen at www.mastergun.ru/34-35.htm (unfortunately not dig one). Pics of "Chameleon" (left) and "Klyk" (middle, at right - CS "Culloden") can be seen at www.mastergun.ru/nozh.htm
These pages are belonged to Russian magazine "MasterRuzhyo" - try to spell, he-he-he

Hey Mikle!!!!

Great answer - and one worthy of the BF "post of the day" reward

Having been intimate with the AK 47 and several other Russian based weapons i can't stop wondering what all these blades will be like - i am drooling all over the keyboard

Well - where do we GET them????
Shall I contact my friends that are former Spatznas???

The knife on the left looks like a Scottish sock knife (its not a boot knife cause they stick it in their long socks when wearing a skirt) and called the Skean Dhu

Thanks for the info and links, Mikle. I haven't had a chance to check them out yet, but I will. If you have any other goodies like this, then by all means, keep posting!

Two important questions in life:
Do they have a catalog?
Did you know there's a town called "Batman" in Turkey?

A KILT IS NOT A "SKIRT".

Cheers,

Guns are for show. Knifes are for Pros.

Some of those knives can be found in a catalog of Russian stuff for sale. The catalog is called "Solvietski Collection". They have a web site at http://sovietski.com/

Haven't goten any knives from them nor do I work for the company. Just got the catalog in the mail. Has some neat looking stuff.

It's a fine line between "a hobby" and "mental illness".

My God - OK OK - I know the difference.

A kilt is a piece of clothing worn by brave fearless Scottish worriers that only looks like, well, a skirt...

BLILIOUS,
Right now I have managed to dig out Russian knife-related web-address (it seems me - one and only in Russia): http://knives.da.ru
They said that manufacturing of some "civilians" SKRYLEV's knives will begin this spring, but people can request them right now.
As far as I can understand there is no possibility to get SKRYLEV's "fighters" legally in Russia and all could be seen in shops (even in department stores) are low quality forges. Using former Spetznaz people might be useful, try it.
People at http://knives.da.ru now trade new-made "antique" Soviet Pilot Knife. This site is made in Russian language, but you will can recognise E-mail "button" or use vocabulary.
Be carefull, clarify all subjects before ordering. I do not know anything wrong about these people, but living in Israel you might be known what "Russian busines" is mean.
When I "dig out" more I let you know.
Regards,
MIKLE

Hey - Mikle - gr8 stuff and 10x allot.

I will shop around and see whats available - and if someting does come up - I'll let you know.

the speial forces guys are an option - but I have to convince them to use THEIR old connections - not simple.

Thanks for your help

Mr. Andrey Grachov from http://knives.chat.ru has come to the BladeForums (with topic "News from Russian knives site" wich now is mooved to the "What's New!" forum). He knows Russian knives much better than me, that's why it will be more usefull to contact him on this subject.
As a finish of my Russian knives information "digging out" I would like to propose you some information in English (it was requested) about two new Grachov's knives could be seen at http://knives.chat.ru
Knife "Eastern motives"(left on pics.) is quite big (overall length - 9.6'', blade length - 4.3'', thickness - 9/64'') tanto pointed and liner locked folder. Blade material - stainless steel 95X18 (according Russian spec it means 0.95% of Carbon and 18% of Chromium) and hardness - 58HRC, what promises no bad edge holding performances. The rest features: possibility of complete disassembling, hardened and polished precision pivot (tolerance 0.001 mm - I do not know what it is in inches
biggrin.gif
) with grease groove and leather sheath (unfortunately no information on handle and liner-lock materials). LIMITED EDITION - ONLY 25 PIECES ! Estimated price - $275, estimated date of manufacturing - April 2000.
Next knife (right on pics) "Fisherman's knife" is spear pointed double edged (one edge is serrated) fix. Overall length - 9 1/4'', blade width - 2'', thickness - 15/64''. Knife material - medium carbon steel 65G (according Russian spec it means 0.65% of Carbon and 1% of Manganese) and hardness - 42-45HRC, but edges are deeply carbonized. Knife is blackened. Knife is completed with wood scales which can be fixed to handle with screws (or you can "create" own handle with lanyard) and sheath. Major feature of this knife - grooves which may help to attach some pole (idea is similar to CS "Bushman" but IMO Bushman's is more reliable). Estimated price - $35, estimated date of manufacturing - April 2000.
See you later (I'm going to business trip for the next week)
Regards,
MIKLE

Mikle

I am actually more interested in genuine working / fighting knives of the Russian forces.

I will be very happy to inspect some of them or even take a look.

10x for your efforts.
