I saw a photo on the internet of a unique sog bowie variant. The owner stated that it was a Russian Market variant. The knife is identical to the US market version except that it has a round guard (similar to a tanto) instead of the traditional double guard and a letter R at the blade base. It was also stated that Russia doesn't allow a true guard on large fixed knives. Has anyone else ever seen this variant of have any info on this S1T 2.0 variant??

It is truth, knifes with guard more than 5 mm + thickness of a blade more than 5 mm + blade long more than 90 mm without the special permission are forbidden to sale in Russia
SOG Bowie - without guard looks as a shark without fins:D

What's the reasoning behind the "no guards" knife law in Russia? To me it seems kind of unsafe because your hand will be able to more easily slip on to the blade.

Thanks so much for your post and pictures, Ruslan!! I purchased the Russian SOG S1T 2.0 Bowie variant from E-bay, the same as in your photo #4. It arrived today in perfect condition. Since it doesn't have a standard double guard, I put it in the Kydex sheath from my SOG Tech, fit's nice and tight. You are right about the shark without fins look but, it reminds me of a true guardless Japanese tanto. I also own a standard version so, I'm not worried about the lack of a guard. It makes for a very unique addition to my SOG collection.
