Hello,
First of all, I'd like to begin by saying that I'm aware of most of all the watch forums, such as PMWF, AWF, etc. (I'm not sure about any dedicated Russian watch forums, however). Also, I'm aware of the various Seiko automatics, but right now I'd just like to know about some of the Russian automatics: I'd like one water resistant to 10 bar or so, and I am currently looking at Vostok and Poljot watches. I'd like to keep the price range to around $200.00 or so. Any suggestions? Oh yeah, I'm familar with Mr.Yao's Seiko work too. Thanks!

I don't know what is the situation at this time, but 10-15 years ago Russian automatic watches was really POS.

I have a cheapo Vostok automatic watch. It's not bad for what it is. It has to be reset a minute or so every few days which is not bad. The day/date setting is a pain. There is no quick way to set the date on mine. I would not spend anywhere near $200 for one. I purchased mine on ebay for about $45 or so. I do not have any experience with the higher priced Russian watches. I have noticed that many of them appear to be manual wind.

Poljot makes a good, quality mechanical wind watch, I cannot however comment on their automatic movements. Vostok makes a decent enough watch but beware for poor QC. Out of the three that I bought (for only 20 a piece), one had to be returned twice. Once for poor time keeping (losing an hour a day), and once for a broken band after 2 hours.
I'd go Poljot, unless you want a beater.

Have a poljot aviator stly watch, similiar to the german observer watch but not as huge. Couldn't aford the fortis. Anyway 3 years of constant use, no complaints. It is an automatic, they said swiss movement. It was 125 dollars.

A good Polish friend of mine bought one recently in Moscow for the equivalent of $50 US dollars. He felt that he overpaid. but liked the watch... I would have been sorely disappointed if I had to pay the 200-300 for the same watch here.
