Rust and stains on D2

I just got a new Spyderco Military in CPM D2. It is awesome.

I fell asleep with it in my hand, and now there are a few fingerprint stains on the blade. I tried using Flitz, WD-40, mineral oil, silicone lubricant - none of this stuff removed the stain.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to safely remove the stains? In the past, I once used Rustoleum rust stripper, but I would only use this harsh chemical as a last resort.

Thanks for the help,

Belly

As you found out, oils won't remove stain (which is a bit of surface corrosion). You could try a scotch-brite pad with either Bon-Ami or Barkeep's friend. You need to remove some oxide from the surface.

um, if you don't mind my asking.. You fell asleep holding an open blade? OY!

Belly, I'd work on the sleeping habit if I were you:D That sounds about as safe as falling asleep with a lit cigarette. I have a D2 Millie, that is one sharp knife:thumbup:

Sorry, I didn't explain myself enough.

I have been so excited with the knife, that I keep on me at all times. The knife was closed, but a good portion of the blade is still exposed. I was holding it in my hand when I fell asleep. Yeah, kinda funny, but I really like the new knife.

Anyway, thanks for the responses. I already tried Flitz - it didn't work. I'll have to try some of the other stuff.

Thanks!

Looks like somebody needs a friend to cuddle up with at bedtime. :)

+1 for Flitz.....does a great job.

Brasso is pretty good on D2.

Well, so far I have been unsuccessful.

I have tried many of your suggestions, and a few of my own.

I tried:
Flitz (like 10 times),
WD-40,
3 types of oils (knowing full well that they are really not rust removers,
Nevr-Dull (like 3 times).

I even went so far as to try:
glass stove top cleaner (a mild abrasive),
bore cleaner,
and even Rust-Oleum rust stripper.

Nothing worked. So, I am inclined to think that the fingerprint stains are not fingerprint stains.

I am stumped, so I am giving up. The stains are so light and can really only be seen at an angle.

The detective in me says to keep trying, but I don't want to buy too many polishes or lubricants.

Maybe I'll try more of your suggestions.

Thanks for any additional info!

Perhaps it's not fingerprint stains ? I usually use Flitz on all my blades whether they are stainless, semi-stainless or even carbon steel. And flitz really clean them up nicely. I can even remove dark patina with it. You might wanna take a picture of the stain and post it here.
