Rust and the advantage of CF (Competitive Finish - Bead Blast)

Hello,

I was wondering what the advantages are of a CF (Competitive Finish) Busse.
I'm speaking about the newer Double Cut Bead Blast that's on the Bushwacker Mistress CF. Is the CF just about looks and aesthetics?

How crucial is the rust time frame? I'm a little concerned that the blade will rust, even after a wipe down after each use. I'm planning on keeping the knife in my closet 90% of the time. I understand people can use power tools to remove the rust. I however, do not own any tools and don't want to spend the money to fix the issue. Should I be worried? :(

Thank you for any and all help.

exactly the opposite to me regarding looks and aesthetics. I like the user look of these and havent lost a minutes sleep worrying about rust. Occasional mineral oil wipe down and you are good to go.

I would treat it with one of the few awesome rust preventatives out there. I use and like Slip 2000 EWL (Extreme Weapons Lubricant) but I know of others that are great too. There are a few synthetics that actually bond to the metal and provide long lasting protection after long and repeated exposures. Do a search here as I remember seeing a great thread sometime ago on this subject where the poster has great pics. I'm sorry I can't remember who did it.

If the knife is to be stored a good while but sometimes used ... I cover mine in Petroleum Jelly .... or Vasiline as it is sold over here .... the jelly gives an air tight seal to prevent rust and is none toxic if you use the knife for food prep after giving it a wipe down .... if you are outside .... wipe it down with a stick and keep it carefully gathered at one end .... stick the other end in the ground to hang onto it .... if you do any chopping .... pick up some of the chips and lightly coat them with the Vasiline .... absolutely brilliant "tinder" for a fire .... and that system has never let me down. I have had knives stored like that wrapped in grease proof paper for 20 years ....

The competition finish is all about the edge, not the appearance. The purpose of the bead blast on the newer ones was to remove the decarb layer, which rusted easily. Generally speaking, you shouldn't have much issue with rust if you continue to wipe it down before storage. If you do get a few spots, it shouldn't require power tools to clean up - a little scotch brite and wd40 would clean it right up.

Thanks for all the replies :D

I'll look back at this thread when I need help.

Yeah, about the edge I've read..

You had me at...zero convex bevel along the edge...!

I would like to see this as an option for sure. I sort of like the INFI pits, but how is she going to handle moisture Jerry?

Again, thanks for helping this noobie. ha

Edit: I searched around BF and I have like 10 threads to read. Great information posted around BF
