hello all again, after my grinding problem got another question about rust...
i polished my blade up to 400 grit, left it away for 3 days wrap in scotch n in betwenn an oiled tissue...
when i took the blade to work on it again, there was a little rust spot, removed easyly with 400grit...
is there a way to prevent this.. will it happen again when ill have it hardened...?
thks for ur answers n ur tips

tissues might contain something in the fiber causeing your rust, like lotion.
you might have gotten something on the blade before you oiled it allowing that spot to rust.
also that spot might not have been oiled.
a good thing to is grease or oil the blade with your fingers and leave all of it on, exept what drips of, and the wrap it in wax paper, or a brown paper bag. you can also put wax on the blade, or coat it with gun-kote or teflon. basically the thicked the protectant the better, like idf you got cosmoline or gun oil, use the cosmoline. this are storage suggestions though. if you care for your blades a little coat of oil after the days work will be just fine, just wipe it on and wipe it off.

You can use any oil ,they all will help. For long term storage I use RIG which is a rust inhibiting grease designed for the purpose. You can find it at gun shops. Instead of using ordinary paper get some paper that has a rust inhibiting vapor in it from someone like www.Mcmaster.com After heat treating will be the same.

I am finishing my first knife ....so I am no expert by no means, but you might try Tuf Cloth or Tuf Glide made by Sentry solutions. I have used them for years on firearms and my personal knives. You can get it at www.brownells.com or what I am looking at is made by a company www.lauerweaponry.com called DuraCoat. Comes in a bunch of colors and seems to be cool item. I have no experience with it, maybe someone has tried it and can let us know. :) Just my two cents.

Normaly while finishing a knife if I'm gonna leave it for any length of time I wipe the blade down good with WD40 and wrap with a clean cotton rag, or leave it laying on a cotton rag in my shop. If I'm working on it before heat treat, I have a gallon oil jug laying on it's side with the top side cut out and half filled with motor oil, just leave it in the oil to prevent rust before heat treating. I also leave blades that have just been heat treated in it. Just mark them so you won't get them mixed up.

I have a 5" shell casing, cut off at 10" high.It has quench oil in it and I stick the blades in it to keep them between daily operations( I cover it with a cut off plastic jug). When taking them in and out of the shop ,I give them a spray of penetrating oil (WD-40),and a light wipe. When the knife is finished, Renaissance is good for basic protection,RIG for long storage.Cosmalene for time capsules.
