I ve stored my backup Recon 1 with cts xhp in the plastic bag and box it came in for the last 3-4 years with no problem. Of course, it hasn t been used. Just occasionally handled and inspected.

My other Recon 1, cts xhp , is one of my current work knives, near the sea coast, and exposed to a lot of perspiration (iwb carry). I wipe it off at night, occasionally rinse off, and I ve had no problem with corrosion. I get the feeling that knife is going to last forever.

DLC is great for resisting scratches, but it doesn’t protect against rust. That said, most “rust” I’ve had on DLC coated blades came right off with a little elbow grease.

Have you checked if it’s pitted into the metal? If it’s not, I bet you it wipes right off. Next time don’t store your stuff in plastic. Any moisture in the air inside the bag will cause corrosion to form.

The term stainless can be misleading. It is more rust resistant than “Carbon” steels due to added chromium but not rust proof. Stainless steels ( excluding H1) still contain carbon so they can eventually rust. I agree with other posts that suggested not storing your knives in plastic.

I've carried a Recon 1 of some sort every day for the past 10 yrs or so, my xhp clip point has been a work knife and gets no special treatment whatsoever, just a wipe down at the end of the day on a rag. Never seen a single spec of corrosion on it, sounds like something went wrong in that plastic bag or possibly a defect from factory. Pics would help :)
