Hey guys,

Let me make sure this thread gets off to the right start by saying that I love my leaterman and this is not meant to be negative in anyway.

I've had my Wave for somewhere around 1.5yrs and its been great. Just recently it's started to rust a fair bit, the parts that have a spring in them to release the locking tools, the inside liner area for the tools, the notches for the ruler on the tool are all starting to fill in with rust :(

It's my EDC and the summer months here are failry humid so lots of moisture on my hands while I'm using it I'm sure. I'd hate to replace it as its my perfect tool, any suggestions on cleaning it up completely, even the hard/if not impossible places to reach?

In comparison, my vic farmer has gone everywhere this wave has and although beat up looking, not a spot of rust anywhere and it's had the same treat meant since day one? Would a swiss tool hold up better?

Probably. New LM's rust so easily, probably to do with Beadblast on them. my LM pulse which is 7+ years old has 0 rust. My Blast took first rustn specs in few weeks.

I wouldn't worry about it. Leatherman uses their own "formula" in metals and heat treat and finishing and while it may not be like others (say Victorinox) it is good and works well.

Vic doesn't spot-rust as easy but it is a softer metal and needs sharpening more. They each have their strengths. I like them both (and have them both).

It should come off easy (mine did) and keep an eye on it but it shouldn't be a serious problem.

Thansk guys. I wasnt sure if it was common or not. It doesnt impact the performance in anyway, just a little annoying but it does get a lot of use so I guess I cant complain!
