Rust on my multi tool

I have an older model Gerber MP (I’m pretty sure it’s an MP 400.) Anyways it has accumulated rust over the years and I’m looking for a way to fix that. The main problem with this is that there is no good way to disassemble it. I have seen a thread on these forums where they say to soak it in WD40 but that was regarding a leatherman which doesn’t have polymer like the MP has. Does anyone know how to remove this rust/easily disassemble the multi tool, it would be much appreciated if you do.

I haven't tried it myself, but one trick people do to restore vintage knife is to soak in vinegar, and preliminary google search shows 3-5% vinegar should not hurt the polymer.

Edit: should not hurt, I missed the important "not", apology to that.

Vinegar will ruin the finish ( and on anything old with carbon steel it kills any patina )
Depending on the amount of rust you can try wd40 and some fine steel wool.

There is a little bit of rust on the outside, however it is mainly in the locking mechanism (the mp400 is weird in that it has a locking mechanism) so it is not really impeding upon ascetics. I have considered going at it with some naval jelly on a q tip, however my worry with that is the polymer.
