Rust on new Spyderco?

I got a police g10 plain edge from amazon last week and the thing is perfect except the blade had a lot of brown crud I thought was lube coming out of the handle on to the blade from the pivot area. I cleaned it off with a q-tip and now there are a few spots that won't come off. I can't tell if it's rust or stained from the brown lube. I put some hoppes #9 and tried to remove the spots with no luck. They are located on the part of the blade that rubs under the handle. I've never heard of a NIB Spyderco coming with rust under the handle but I guess it's possible.....I guess it could be some rough spots too. One of my abused voyagers got all rusted up but all the oxisidization came off with good ole #9. I'm stumped...

You may never know the origin of the problem, but it is not one I have seen on any of my Police knives. Were it mine, I would give it a shot of oil and work the pivot until it feels well broken in. The extra oil will help to float the contamination out of the pivot. After that step, immerse the knife into some detergent and hot water and again work the pivot well. Rinse your knife under hot water and dry using a hair dryer. Now you want to lube the knife with your favorite lube. I am partial to Blue Lube or synthetic oil.

As for those spots, Mag polish will work well.
