I took my mod.7 out of the safe yesterday and found tiny rust spots that formed a line in the center of the blade a couple of misc. areas. I used semichrome and a japanese powder and paper compound with no results. I remember reading about silicon or something cloth that may do the job, or am
I forced to have it refinished?

If you are that concerned, send it back to Randall. They used to clean them up for nothing, to very little.

Is this the same knife you asked about rusting in this thread back in November?

I would think Rhett's advice still applies best of any, just like LRB's.

The abrasive you are asking about might be "wet-or-dry" silicon carbide paper. There is also "crocus cloth".

If you are storing the knives in leather sheathes you are courting rust. Use zip cases with anti-rust paper in them, and periodically wax the steel.

Another option is to rub the knife down with a Sentry Tough Cloth:

Tough Cloth

I've used this on my Remington Police Magnum shotgun for years and I've never found any rust on it. Of course, you'll still need to remove the rust in the first place, and you still shouldn't store it in it's sheath, but this stuff goes a long way to keeping rust off in the first place.

I can't offer good ways to clean it, but I'll reiterate what was already said: Do not store your knives in their sheaths. Wrap them in anti-rust paper (aka VCI paper) as was mentioned.

I was going to say, you might take this to the Randall forum, but it looks like you have, months ago, as Mike Fitzgerald pointed out.

Sent it back to Randall. If you do anything to it yourself it will reduce it's immense collector value by thousands.

Thank you all very much for th advice. Since my rust is so little I'll take your advice and try it my self. Talk to you all later.
