Guys, I keep getting rust on the butt of my RMDx LE. Only there, nowhere else. Its kinda freaking me out.... any suggestions?

Man, I hate living in a swamp! :(

Are you sure it's rust? And not just some type of patina? Do you have pics?

I get like little spots on the one I got, from like fingerprints or moisture or plant residue, but they come off relatively easy with some Bar Keepers Friend.

I dunno.... its hard to tell because of where it is. I always assume the worst! I'm afaid I have no idea what Bar Keeper's Friend is....

There's a link. To be honest, I think it's just the nature of the steel itself. Swamp rat steel is definitely not stainless, nor is it designed to be, and compared with INFI (Busse steel, which is also not stainless) it does seem to be more prone to stains and spots and stuff. But, i'm pretty sure it's no big deal. Just clean it once in awhile with some of the bar keepers stuff and it should be fine. Also, when it;s not in use, try to keep it in relatively dry area.

After having read around a bit I recently purchased one of these babies to put a protective layer on the blades once in a while: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=126244. Particularly good when storing for a long time and/or you live in a swamp/besides salt water ;)

Read good things about Break-free CLP as well, but I couldnt find it at a sensible price due to high p&p costs where it was available over here in Norway.

Guys suggesting barkeepers friend and anything else just keep in mind the OP is from South Africa according to his profile. Chances of finding it in his local grocery with the Ajax and Comet are probably low to non-existent.

Thanks for the tip. Is that much the same as Tuf-Glide? That's what I usually use....

Howdy, yes ideed I am not in the US.... I have a wide range of anti-corrosion items, including Ballistol, Break-Free, Tuf-Glide, WD-40.... I have tried them all but have found that nothing is fool proof when the rainy season hits here. You cant believe the levels of humidity! I think I need to invest in a proper knife cabinet and try to create a dryer storage environment...

I use a marine Tuff-Cloth on my Rats. Has worked well so far for keeping rust at bay.

I think so. It sounds like you've got pretty much everything you need to keep your blade rust free in theory, judging from your below post. ;)
