I have been looking at the same thing. What I have found is that with very little work (a few minutes) even the best products come off so it would not surprise me that a tight sheath would quickly abrade them as well. I would be interested if anyone could suggest a wear resistant coating that can be easily reapplied.

I have found that AstroShield, a liquid car wax that dries very hard, is about the best thing out there. I have tried every kind of oil and several of the rust preventatives like Tuff Cloth. They all come off easily, even through sheath wear. They also all leave a residue on the blade. AstroShield (or, I suppose, any really good car wax) leaves an invisible film that is really tough, completely water resistant, leaves no visible residue (my HI khukris SHINE

)and, I suppose, would hold up better under chopping than any regular film-based stuff. I don't really get much chance to do any real chopping in my apartment, so that's something others wil have to figure out. But I have noticed that my blades with the car wax coating hold up to repeated sheath drawing, even with kydex sheaths.

One thing about car waxes though. As you may notice on your car, where ever the wax dries on a rough or matte surface, it leaves a white flaky residue. I don't know how car wax will work on matte, bead blasted, or coated blades, because the stuff might be next to impossible to get off and restore the otriginal finish. I have only tried it on polished bare metal blades. But on those, it works great!
