After I get something POLISHED I feel like the next important item would be to learn about "Rust Prevention" and the safe/dry storage.

I have up till now used the following for rust prevention with fairly good results: Flitz Polish, Sentry Solutions TUF-CLOTH, Militec & Breakfree and other commericial oils/lubricants.

For dry storage I just got a footlocker which has a gasket type seal on it along with tossing in a couple of dessicant paks.

I would like you all to expound on maybe better or alternative methods of RUST PREVENTION and DRY STORAGE. With my growing interest in carbon steel blades I feel like this is the utmost of importance.

Try a product called Corrosion X. I've used it on guns and knives for years. For dry storage, "bake" your dessicant paks in the oven on the lowest heat setting for several hours every couple of months, restores them to full efficiency. I have a monster gunsafe with quantities of dessicant in it and routinely do this. Never a problem with all those mostly standard steel guns, magazines, and other related items.

My storage forguns, knives and tools has always been a light coating of RIG preservative grease, then wrapped in VPI [vapor phase inhibiter] paper and put into a plastic bag . Add a dessicant packet if you want .

Hey thanks for the tips there guys :) Hey "OLD CW4" where do you buy your "Corrosion X" at? I'll do a web search in the meantime.

Mete where do you get your "RIG grease" at? I thought I had heard of every product of this type on the planet and you 2 guys have made me aware of 2 more products.

Sentry Solutions TUF CLOTH is great and their Marine Cloth version is really good too.

Also can anyone provide any tips for Rust Prevention and dry storage for traveling situtations. I have had to travel quite a bit here lately and I usually take a lot of knives and tools with me. Thanks for the great tips guys

RIG means rust inhibiting grease .There is also a RIG+P+ for high pressure applications like shotgun hinge pins. It's been around for a long time .Try your local gun shop. There also was a 'RIG Rag' which was just a rag with Rig in it .I make that myself....RIG can be bought at www.midwayusa.com for one .

Mete's procedure should work for traveling as well. I suppose you could buy one of those waterproof camera trunks as well if you feel the need.

Out of curiosity, how much traveling do you do and where do you go that you feel you have to take such extreme measures to protect your knives and tools? Knives are made to be used in the outdoors. They should stand up to ambient conditions for several weeks at a time with no more than light oiling. Long term storage typically requires more robust measures. However, whatever you feel you need for it, go thou and protect!
