Rust prevention????

I am new to making knives. I made a few out of old cutting edge from a loader and a leaf springs.

But I wonder how do I prevent rust?

Should I used different steel? or is there something I can do to my knives to some kind of rust prevention?

there is no real forever fixed with rusting
except to psy heed with constant
inspection, after care and maintainance.
bearing in mind that any coating will
eventually wear down or abrade with use....

Ok thanks. So other than using other steels like stainless there isnt much i can do to prevent rust other than coatings.

Can you suggest a few steel will resiste better ti rust?
