So I bought a buck 110 on July 18th so I'v had it for almost 2 months and have barley used it maybe 5 times. I found rust on it today and I don't know if its somthing that usually happens or what, I got it off with steel wool and WD-40 and I was just wondering if there is anything to do to prevent this from happening, I don't use this knife alot and I don't want it to get bad over a period that I really don't look at it. Thanks.

You can wipe the blade down every once in a while with food grade mineral oil - available at most drugstores. That should take care of it.

Or you can go with something like Tuf-Cloth, FP-10, CLP BreakFree, etc. -
but they're not necessarily food-safe.
A.G. Russell has a good product called RustFree.

Rust on the blade or oxidation on the bolsters? Are you storing it in it's leather sheath? A lot of leather attacks metal and is actually pretty bad for long term storage for a knife.

As the previous poster said, a very thin film of oil on the blade will help prevent rust. Though I'm pretty surprised you got rust on that blade as Buck stainless steel seems very, very rust resistant in my limited experience.

Some good recommendations above ... just keep it clean, dry, and oiled or otherwise coated with something. BreakFree CLP is excellent, I've used it for years. A regular user here with the forum handle 'fulloflead' did some tests of products a few years ago and BreakFree did very well

One thing I'll mention ... using regular steel wool to clean or polish stainless steel can cause rust; what happens is tiny bits of the non-stainless steel from the wool embed themselves in the stainless, and can start a process where you'll see little rusty circles starting to form, and they are very difficult to completely remove. I have heard of stainless steel wool, which you can use, but don't know where you could get it. But you really don't need anything so abrasive to keep your blades clean.

I doubt steel wool will embed in a hardened knife blade. Just wipe the blade well after uising it.
