I recently acquired a Benchmade Contego 810 with M4 steel and I am wondering what would work best for keeping the rust away. What do you use to retard rust on your knives?? Rem Oil? Outers? What say you?

Recently started using John Boos' Block Cream, which is a mixture of mineral oil and unrefined beeswax. Food safe and can also be used to protect both the blade as well as any wooden handles you may have. Have used it on 5160, 52100 and D2 w success.

I cerakote and don't have any worries 😀

Rem Oil? Outers?

I use Renaissance wax on my knives, just because I already have some.

Depending on your climate and what you use the knife for, you might not have much trouble with it or you might have to use a good protectant. You might be OK with normal oils. I'm not sure about Rem-Oil but Outers make some products intended for metal protection.

I read from someone that lives in a tropical climate that they had the best luck on their tools with common paste wax.

Been carrying my Contego at work daily for a while now. I work outside rain or shine and I have no signs of rust on my knife.
