Rust protection for Case CV?

Greetings you all:)

Man, how happy I was when I finally modified my Yellow Case Sodbuster to a nice drop point.

After it I sharpened it to a razor edge, cleaned the bade and put a thin layer of Ballistol in it.

However, when I took the knife out my pocket, it had devellopped light brown rust spots all over the blade.

I had forced patina before the modification.

Now I must confess it's hot and humid over here and I'm an easy sweater.

Is there anything I can do about this, or does CV and my body chemestry just not mix?
I carried my Opinel au Carbon in the same condition with no problems.

I hope you can help me out on this.

Thanx much for reading

Mineral oil works just fine for me. If you don't use it for food prep I've heard silicone spray works good.

I recommend Tuf-Cloth (and Tuf-Glide) by Sentry Solutions.

They're very effective corrosion inhibitors, long lasting, and continue protecting when dry.

But there are several good products available, and everyone has their favorite.

+1 on the Tuf Cloth and Tuf Glide... works great and keeps working even after it drys up.

How deep a patina did you force?

Maybe it needs a bit more.

Try just wiping the blade down with a dry cloth every morning, and again in the evening, and let it go ahead and darken up. Are the rust spots just that, spots, with no pitting of the surface? If so, they should just come off easy, leaving a dark spot that will eventually blend in with a steady darkening of the patina. That's what happens here on the Chesapeake, the largest salt water estuary in the world. Knives just keep getting dark spots untill the whole blade is almost black, then it's okay and stays that way for the life of the knife.

Or you can try a hot vinigar patina. Then wipe down with mineral oil and wipe off with cloth. The vinigar will leave a microscopic pitted surface that when you wipe off the mineral oil, an oily film will still be down in the micro pits.

Can you tell me more about the hot vinegar patina? How long do you leave it in and does the type of vinegar matter?
