I wanted to post a thread with some pictures showing a cheap and easy way to remove rust and "patina" from naked INFI

there are a bunch of threads showing how to strip a blade but i was unable to find one showing the usefulness of Naval Jelly

I got this ugly lady today and decided to freshen her up a bit.. no tools, low tech:cool:

She had received a lot of lovin' as you can see:

So for about 15 bucks i picked up some Naval Jelly, sand paper, gloves, "0000" steel wool, and a brush

The stuff reminded me of that pink goo from Ghostbusters, you know the stuff they used to make The Statue of Liberty walk through New York.

BTW, doing this in your kitchen will leave you feeling a little woozy:(

After a quick rinse and a bit of hand polishing here we are:

She is still a bit rough but i think i like it better that way:thumbup:

Lets get a closeup shot of the new and improved surface!

Here you go:

I wouldn't say "new" though, the blade is still ugly and retains a "patina" but the rust is gone.

This is what the surface looked like after a ten minute Naval Jelly bath and a quick 2 minute scrub with the steel wool. I am sure i could make it prettier but i am lazy:p

No Problem, this was my first time using the Jelly... i can certainly say that i have no fear of rusty naked INFI anymore... it cleans up super easy with this stuff...oh, BTW a whole jar of this stuff costs about 4 bucks:thumbup:

Man, some one loved that AK. Great job on the clean up. Have I mentioned I really need an AK?

Or, you know, the Chuckette!

Good job on the clean up. That is the ruffest AK I have ever seen. Good work man.

Yeah, that's pretty ugly... you don't want to be seen with that.

I, OTOH, have no shame, so I'll give you a $100 for it so you need not be embarrassed any more.

is that a decarb layer on that AK??

It does look like there is still some decarb in the dimples. i have stripped some INFI in the past and in my extremely limited experience the only way to get all the decarb off is to sand or polish.
