Rust removal/prevention

I've noticed that the AUS-8 blade on my Remote Release gathers small bits of rust on the blade rather quickly. I scrub it off when I notice it, but is there a good way to keep it from showing up so quickly? Any preffered method of removal when it does come back?

I like the ATS-55 of my Delica. The only rust I've seen so far is down in the engraving where it says "Spyderco ATS-55", other than that the only problem is the tendency for the serrated blade to collect bits of what was just cut! OK, no more yard work for a while. That sap is hard to get out!!

OK, now for a dangerous question. How do I keep these things running smooth? The Diawa fishing reel oil my dad uses seems to work pretty good. I was wondering if that wierd lithium or graphite grease stuff would be any good, besides making one sick(the "harmful or fatal if swallowed" scared me away). From previous discussions, I might just go get some RemOil. OK, part of the problem is that my Delica is REALLY tight. The sides kinda clamp down on the end of the blade making it a bit hard at times to open, and always causing trouble when closing the knife - what good is one hand opening when you have to use two hands to close it? My Remote Release is so loose the blade flops around when the lock is released - caught me by suprise when I first got it and put a nice little cut in my finger after the blade fell on it! But the nice heavy blade makes it easy to snap open without even going near the blade...

JRollins - Doesn't sound right on the Delica. Is it FRN or Stainless handle model?

You may want to send it it for "inspection"?

Flitz polish is the way to go. It actually removes surface corrosion as well as protects. Their literature states that it can protect up to 6 months after application. But if you actually use your blades I wouldn' t wait that long.

Flitz can indeed remove surface rust/ corrosion without harming the finish on blued firearms. Have been doing it for years.

Flitz are not sold in Malaysia, so I settle for AUTOGLYM to polish off the rust and stain. Works well for me. I wash off the polish with liquid detergent, give it a smell test and coat the blade with a little dash of cooking oil to cut food. So far so good, no toxic effect yet...

I'll have to check out that Flitz stuff. How about that tuf-cloth stuff that 1sks has on almost EVERY page(as I sit here trying to count them all for that silly contest)?

Sal - It's the FRN handle. I'll call up and arrange to have the Delica sent back to get it checked out.

"How about that tuf-cloth stuff that 1sks has on almost EVERY page"

I just got a tuf-cloth. I used it on my Benchmade/Emerson CQC-7. I took the knife for a hike, and used it, as usual, slashing weeds, vines, and thorns away from the trail. This gunks the blade up terribly; I have to scrub it down when I get hoem. If I don't do that right away, I have to use alcohol to dissolve the sap.

But after tuf-clothing it, the sap didn't stick. It was really amazing. It stayed absolutely clean. I didn't even have to wipe it off.
