Bottom line: water to molasses ratio 9:1 and a process called chelation. Takes a few days.

Thanks for sharing this, Rokjok. FWIW the ham radio buffs I've known were total fanatics about their hobby, so I'd bet this is every bit as good as the author says.

hmm....anyone know if this is safe for the blueing used on guns? (I realize there are several different types of blueing)

Tarnite (Ace Hardware or web order) with active ingredient oxalic acid. Oxalic acid digests oxides without attacking metal. Much faster, just apply and wipe off. Perfectly safe for skin contact - just don't ingest.

Not safe for blueing, since I think blueing on guns is an oxidation process.
