So what does everyone use to remove rust and bad stains from blades?

I have a German-made fish knife that was stored in a leather sheath and is stained. Also my father has a Buck 110 from the 70s (I think) which has a few spots of rust.

In addition, what is good for removing corrosion from a blued gun without screwing the whole finish up? Unfortunately my father also doesn't treat his guns very well. :(

Thanks. Any other suggestions? White Lightning Metal Brite?

I have read that you can use a piece of copper on blued metal without hurting it. The idea is that the copper is hard enough to take off the rust but not so hard as to hurt the steel if you are careful.

Flitz is great stuff, but do not think for a minute it won't wear away a blued finish, it definitely will, despite the fact that the bottle says it's safe for bluing and non-abrasive, it is definitely abrasive, if only mildly.

Depends on what type of rust removal we are talking about. For example, is this light surface rust or is it deeply pitted and what not? I use Neverdull and Wenol religiously on most of my stuff just for polishing and protecting but both of those can remove light surface rust. Believe it or not I actually put some stuff called Zaino on my knives as well, after I use it on the car of course. It is a great polymer protectant and is used on a lot of automobiles. I love the stuff and it works wonders for the surface of an auto but has the protection qualities that make it good to coat any nonporous surface, even knives. It is kind of like a temporary clearcoat more or less and the stuff is tough. Anyways I wouldn't recommend buying it just to put on your knives LOL but if you are serious about car detailing and have some laying around then use it on them and find out or yourself. Later.
