Howdy everyone! I was wondering the best way to get rust off of a high carbon stainless? The blade is the M-16 series by CRKT. Thanks for your help!

If it's stainless, it shouldn't rust? Am I wrong on this?

Aside from that, I would suggest a fine sandpaper.

WD 40. If there is a lot of rust, scrub with 0000 steel wool.

Stainless = stains less than non-stainless (carbon) steel. I'd recommend WD-40 and some 800-grit sandpaper. Polish with simichrome polish.

I always try to start with the lightest abrasive I can to start with. I use Flitz or Mothers Mag Polish as a starting place. If that does not work I will move to 0000 or 000 Steel wool and WD-40. Either of these methods tend to work for light surface rust. Pitting type of rust needs hand rubbing with assending grits of wet/dry sandpaper and WD-40.

Step 1, let soak with penetrating/gun oil and rub vigorously with a rag. If that doesn't get it off, then step up to steel wool+ oil or gently use some flitz or other similar polish. With a satin finish blade you can really lean into a fine polishing compound without issue, on bead blasting you should take care as it will noticably smooth the surface compared to the rest of the blade if you're aggressive with it.

I normally stop there even if there's a little spot left, but if you really want to get it all off then you'll need to step up to "real" abrasives like 600 grit sandpaper or abrasive (not kitchen) scotchbrite pads.

Stainless steel is less prone to rusting but is not rust proof, but i think H1 steel does not rust easily.

I personally use Nev R Dull to remove rust. It works on automotive chrome and i have used it to remove rust from my D2 morpho, as well as a high carbon steel katana blade as well. Its like impregnated cotton and is very gentle. You can find it at many automotive stores.
