I used some rust remover on my new strider to get rid of a small spot of rust that had formed where my thumb hits the blade when I open it. I followed the directions and it now has a huge stain on the blade. Im kinda sad i like this knife

Any ideas?

It should come off with repeated cleanings. Try this step by step:

1. Brasso or WD-40; coat blade with either and let it sit for about ten minutes.

2. After 10 minutes, use a paper towel and remove which ever of the two you used from the blade; this should lift the stain.

3. Get yourself some Break-Free lube, Tuff-Cloth, or something based with Teflon. Any of these (some arguably better than the others) will leave a protective coat that will prevent future stains if treated regularly after use. Personally, I prefer the liquid Break-Free since it's moderately priced and lasts a long time. Superlube is good, but stinks and is fumy.

Hope this helps.

Try some Flitz and 0000 steel wool. I had good results using this method on a 35 year old khukri that had NEVER been cleaned. Hope this helps.

I agree with Prof., Brasso is unbelieveable stuff. If the stain can be removed Brasso will get it off. It may not affect you, but Brasso does irritate my skin.

All the knives in the world go round and round, round and round, round and round...DAMN, one of them took my wallet !!! :)

It was some stuff my father had for guns, the bottle just says rust remover. Guess im used to steel that is a tad more stainless. Is flitz safe to use on a bead blast finish? Its a BG-42 strider with a bead blast finish if it matters. Thanks for the replys.

Bead blast! That stuff gets stains real easy. I had a CRKT Neck Peck that had stained. I used some mild TurtleWax polishing compounds (Clear Coat works) and a rag and rubbed it off. Then cleaned it up with Tri-Flow or WD-40.
